Both starboard side speakers are not working for my cockpit stereo. Checked both non functioning speakers with a battery test and did a speaker swap with a port side speaker (problems not the speakers). Fader control is on center. Tried to remove the CMD5 but it must be attached at the back of the unit and would not come all the way out of the electrical panel (3/4 way out). How is this unit is removed and is there an amplifier installed behind it? Can't see any obvious access to the unit other than the 4 screws on the front face. Ideas?
Thanks
Gary

Since its the right side speakers, out, check the balance setting, if the 5 has one. It would be in a sub menu though. If the boat only has 4 speakers, there is likely not an external amp. If there are additional speakers, then I would suspect theres an amp somewhere in a locker, cabinet or under a seat.

Did you do the battery test at the speakers or at the speaker leads behind the head-unit?

if there is an external amp, start by swapping the RCA's. Next, swap the left and right speaker leads.

I would say a bad amp. The 340 should have at least a total of six speakers, two in the cabin and the four cockpit. The cockpit speakers should be on an amp. Locate the amp and reverse the sides. If you do that and the problem switches to port, then replace the amp. In my 320 I had, the amp was below the salon couch. I think the 340 has the amp in the back of the starboard forward hanging locker, possibly behind the panel. It would not be behind the head unit at the distribution panel.

Located the 2008 parts manual online and they show an am below the sofa. Of course, they tend to put things in different places on the same model boat, just depends what day it was built and who installed it all.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. Sundancer manual infers there is an amp under the sofa but there is none to be found ( there is no cock pit sub woofer, only 4 speakers). Balance is the fader control which is set on center (tried all positions). I could not get the head unit out so I did speaker test at speaker. I have a separate JVC stereo unit in the salon and it has a large power amp under the v berth bed. I guess the plan forward is to get the head unit removed. I was advised to remove the electrical panel and reach up to disconnect the wires.

Hi. I was thinking I would have to remove the DC electrical panel to gain access but I was nervous doing this not sure of what I would find. Can the panel be removed with enough room to leave all the wires connected? Thanks again for the info.

I doubt this is related to your issue, but: I discovered by accident that on my 2007 280 Sundancer that some of the speakers are not operable unless the port battery switch is set to "both". It took me a long time to discover that, and I've never found any documentation of it. For me it was the aft speakers, which I'm assuming run off the external amp, while the forward speakers are driven by a separate source integrated into the head unit. Change the battery switch position and I get stereo at the stern.

Just a thought to try.

Sounds like an aftermarket upgrade gone awry. All the audio needs to share the same battery source, sounds like yours does not.

I think the path forward is to gain access to the head unit thru the DC electrical panel as you suggested. Then I can check the amp and head unit. Boat is out of the water for the season so may have to wait for spring and warmer weather. Thanks for all the comments
