2023 slip rates

For us who are still slaving away at our jobs. The Yacht club experience had new members plates filled with volunteer activities. We absolutely don't mind but, would prefer pitching in during the week nights thus keeping weekends open. Our dock is filled with great life friends who think Alike. For now we will keep it that way.

I was in a yacht club marina 3 years, nice, friendly people. Didnt mind the occasional chores. Activities were great like the yearly ‘take out a handicap kid on each boat fishing tournament’. Didnt even mind the monthly meetings were the officers dressed up like Chester Nimitz to conduct meetings about the drunk members not cleaning up the trash.
There is one right next to my favorite tiki bar so i could just walk next door. But then Id never move the boat like most those members. Not going down that rabbit hole.

I gotta say, never had, wanted, or will have twins. I cant imagine how yall with twins deal with the expense. One engine/outdrive is enough.

I am proactive so do one side at a time some years. If an owner defers maintenance that can bite you in the ass.

When on the ocean having twins is worth the security against being dead in the water plus the extra manuverability at the dock.

Burnham Harbor Chicago
50’ slip (perfect amount of room for the dink) mooring tax and get this “dock box tax” lol not much but still a tax $16.65, I pay 20% up charge for being a non-resident so $8,600, dinghy space, even though I already paid for it as it sits behind the boat is $400, $200 dock box space, electric about $50 annually, other utilities $200. You get one parking card and of course we need two so add $300.
I’m not complaining we have a nice view of downtown and can motor home to the burbs in under an hour. Lots going on the dock and water so never for a loss on what to do. I’m all in at $9,750……:):)

I tried that…… I literally can’t handle snotty people….. some yacht clubs are like that too that I have belonged to…… I quit as soon as I can….. I’m happy now with the Lakefront Yacht club and Put In Bay yacht club….. normal people
Had to throw this in there as I couldn’t agree more. My buddy that moved here joined Verdict Ridge Golf Club, hard course and my game sucks coming back from the fall (like falling in between the dock and swim platform and breaking 6 ribs and puncturing a lung, again, no alcohol involved, probably would have been better off.) Nice people though so far, only one yahoo we golfed with, you know him…if you’ve been to the moon he has been to Mars. Anyway, Safe Harbor bought the Peninsula Yacht Club as well, nothing bad about the boaters…but…I asked about reciprocity and being able to go over and use the restaurant (we don’t have one) and my GM looked at her shoes and said I would have to contact them. I did, young lady was very nice and told me, sure, I just had to pony up the $6k member fee. I know the restaurant is not all that and a bag of chips. Just got my nose out of joint a bit. We all have a SH black card that scans at any SH marina so as not to let the rifraf  in. I’m done.

I can understand that. Great thing about the upper Chesapeake, within an hour i will drift to the shallows, get out and walk to a phone, call Uber for a ride home.

I have always been very mechanically inclined. That helps with my decision of not minding getting a twin. There is very little I will not be able to do myself. If I had to pay for it all I doubt I would have even bought a big boat.

That's no lie. Could not imagine having to pay for everything, if I did, I wouldn't have all of the toys I do.

Life might be a bit easier though ...

Yup if you don’t have deep pockets or ability to do maintenance on you

Typing out how much we pay just to leave boat at marina makes me question my sanity.

We’ve considered going bigger but man going back to a trailerable boat I could have so much more cash to invest

When it comes down to the marina expense, it also comes down to how you want to boat and what's that life style worth to you.

There is a lot to be said about spending a long weekend on your boat and not having to drive any where.

Just damn. Found out marina wants to charge $100 to set up cable at the slip.
Marina or Comcast? Basic cable should be included in the slip fees. But if you slip has never been "turned on" by Comcast, they may have to come out to connect it.

Got my invoice in "the email" and much to my delight/surprise - no rate change this year.

I could have so much more cash to invest

Invest in what though? And then buy what IF your investment pans out?

The memories at the dock, on the water, turning a wrench, fixing something, meeting fellow boaters, helping a boater out, listening to a favorite song with a little buzz on a warm night, etc. - that is my investment.

Last Yacht Club I was a member of, and kept the boat there as well, was nice, but too much drinking and drama for me. Good people, lots of good charity events I helped with, enjoyed the annual cleaning, Tuxedo Balls, helping each other out with boat repairs, etc. Again though, too much drinking, which lead to too much drama, etc.

We joined a Yacht Club last year that is not associated with a marina for doing cruises/trips only, so far, so good.

Yeah, used to be free. Still had to wait 4+ hour window for them to show. How the heck do I know if it's been "turned on." Shouldn't they all be plug and play?

Used to have some schlock satellite system but they switched to Comcast when Westrec took over. BUT they only setup occupied slips not the empty slips.

Just call Comcast directly. I did that a few years ago when I first set up my cable and internet. The marina had an "open house" with a Comcast rep that "handled" the account, but I figured out all they do is take a commision so I set up my service directly, and set it up each year directly.

Some Comcast customer service people get confused when they look at the service, but just act like it is a condo or apartment. If you try to explain that it is a boat it throws them off because boats aren't covered in their call script.

If.your slip has never had internet Comcast will charge you a 1 time setup fee, but I think it was.like $35. Just make sure.you tell them you need a month to month contract,.not.an annual.commitment.
