2023 Springtime Shine thread

Those that use SMOUV products, I need a refresher. I actually ordered Bubblegum and White Cloud last year, however with our move I never used them.

The hull is in good shape, however the topside can use a little help, but isn’t bad. I’ve used Meguiar’s Cleaner Wax and Flagship every year. Would I need Procut 1000? I do have two new wool pads. Would Bubblegum be fine with a wool pad?

5 hours today doing the top side. Used the starbrite marine polish. (Did meguires flagship on the hull before launch, so we’ll see what lasts longer). I thought the polish was easier to use. I’m ready to fight Daniel son.

I was planning on doing rub rail down this year myself. My storage place offered to quote so I said sure. They did the white above the rubrail last year and it still looks great. When I saw the quote today for the blue….. if you figure the costs….I have to stay in a hotel…pads and material…. Count food and booze ?? I issued a po today

I am thinking I will alternate above below rubrail each year

A full season on the hull with 2 coats of collinite fleetwax done in the spring and still looks great and hydrophobic.
I did one coat of the collinite cleaner in spring to prep the hull and then two coats of the fleet wax. It looked amazing all season. In the fall when I pulled it just a quick wash and the hull looked just as perfect as it did before I dropped it in, with loads of water beading still. It's a little expensive but the quality is impressive.

Damn, I was quoted almost twice that much for my 29' boat. I need to move.

I am not a fan of Collinites products at all…… I tried it one year and said the hell with this….. easy on easy off is not their thing….. I left it by the door in storage and it was gone in 2 seconds….. all the power to you guys that like it

Yes I agree it seems cheap…. It’s not a service it’s their own employees and they do a hell of a job that lasts well over two years

That's a great price!

The people here in Dallas rob you! One company quoted me last year and they wanted between $80-$90/foot PLUS an additional $5-$10/ft for being over 10 years old!

How do you get away with 42 feet on a 45 foot boat?

How do you get away with 42 feet on a 45 foot boat?
I don’t argue when it’s shorter only when it’s longer. When it went into storage this year … the damn thing grew to 50’ x 14’ that’s when I have a problem. It took the owner, owners son, some guy to hold the tape measure and me to get it back down to 45’…. So measuring is not their thing

I find the work below the rub rail to be almost relaxing. I despise...truly...all of the cleaning, polishing and waxing that occurs above the rub rail. On hands and knees...back pain...that's worth paying someone else for!

I dont mind doing the blue below the rubrail....god knows I have every buffer and product known to man to do it.... Its finding the time....Hotel and food and the tight working area I am in in storage.... I just look at the bill and say phuck it....let someone else do it. I will still do the swimplatform and some polishing up the side above the rubrail....but that is easy stuff

I always say: "Sometimes I have more time than money and sometimes I have more money than time." Right now I have more money than time, so I will find someone to detail and polish the boat.

Our boat is starting to get the annual detail job tomorrow. The guys doing it have been very close friends since I was in high school and they are great at what they do. I personally think they are some of the best at it and not just cause they are great friends. I continue to get compliments at the end of the season and people asking me who does our boat in the off season.

I just got a quote for $650 to do an interior and exterior detail. Buff, polish and wax from the top of the gunwales to the waterline. I think I'm going to go with that. It pays to book early.

First time using smoove 1500 not getting the results I was hoping for probably operator error. any special techniques?
getting swirl marks on gelcoat. it is a very dry product. white wool pad. low setting to start then speed up a bit. thx for help.

If you're using their compound you should expect swirls. You need to follow the compound with a polish (Smoove Bubble Gum) to remove the swirls. I use white presta pads for compounding, green for polishing.

Are you sure 1500. I know there is a 1000 cut ? Not familiar of 1500

Are you using a 3M pad if not you should and use the yellow pad

Smoove 1000 is a medium aggressive compound….. if you have very light very light oxidation it works okay

I prefer this a German product.

With smoove products, if you have a really good base their product line is very easy and good at maintaining it.

Plus you can use smoove products on you car. As long as it looks like a boat :)
