2006 220 Select. 5.0 MPI with Bravo III. At WOT, I am getting about 4300 rpm and about 40mph on calm water (not glass but not far from it). Seems like I'm missing some power from what I have seen from others on performance. Boat is new to me, original prop from what I can tell. What should I be looking at to improve?

After using it 10-15 times the only things I notice are that it sometimes takes a few seconds to crank, and that it seems to run a little hot (usually a little over 175). It does have a cracked exhaust manifold but the mechanic said I'd be good to wait until the offseason to get that replaced (doesn't shed much water).

Should I even worry about it or should I just leave well enough alone and move on with my life? :)

MPI motors have a longer cranking time before starting. It’s common and there are a few threads here about it.

re the exhaust manifold, you’re going to replace it eventually, so do it now to avoid any issues. If it’s leaking externally, it could be leaking internally too and that’s REALLY BAD.

My 2003 5.0 MPI Alpha 1 in a Select 2000, turning a 19" High Five is producing 48 mph GPS with a little trim on flat water. More trim and it beeps over-rev but does not accelerate past 5100 rpm, the limit. Temp sticks at a little over 175 F. Good flat start and I'm happy.

I would be trying to figure out which cylinder has water in it from the leaking manifold.

Assuming everything is stock, I'm seeing a couple options as you should be getting more speed and RPM out of it...

-- Dirty bottom/buggered props
-- Loss of power in the engine
-- Not trimming the drive up enough
