Magma Grill mount on the 300?
hey guys, do any of you have a good recommendation on where to mount a party size kettle grill with a rail mount on the 300?
i tried it on the aft rail on the stern compartment but found it awkward to open and close the compartment when I need to access it.
i now have it mounted on the aft Bimini rail which functions well except for the grease dropping on the side of the boat when I use it.

thanks in advance

You could do a rod holder mount and hook a temporary rod holder from west marine on the trunk lid. That's how I do my Newport magma. I leave the rood holder on all season and just pop the grill in the mount when needed.

Can anyone who has the NorthStar NS100 VHF radio tell me where the base unit is? According to the parts guide it is under the dash, but I can't find it under there. The harness from the speaker leads to the starboard side gunwale and then disappears. It is hard to see in there so maybe I am missing it, but I don't think so.

Thanks!

Hey Jim, thanks again for the chat on the phone before. It was really helpful speaking to a current 300DA owner as I was going through my decision-making process.

A quick question about your Magma Newport- where do you store it? I sold my last Newport with the 280 since I had made a custom shelf in the bilge for it. I plan to get another one but may be swayed to something else depending on where I can store it. My hope is to put it in a duffle bag and keep it under the flip-up seat in the cockpit. Do you happen to store yours there, or if not do you think it would fit? I could take some measurements, but I am guessing you have already thought this through!

Re: Help!!!

There was an earlier post in this thread of a similar symptom, but more to the port side rather than the center. Here it is:

Follow up from my original post. The port marker was the problem. It had been caulked, I hope by the previous owner and not the OEM. Either way I was able to clean the caulk up so the mounting bracket for the light would seat properly. This corrected the problem. Be aware, the marker lights are only mounted with two screws. Good luck

Excellent, glad it was an easy fix. I took both my markers off last year just to see what was under them. Mine have a nice rubber gasket between the marker and the gelcoat. Seemed to keep everything well sealed. Although there was a bit of moist green slime on the underside of each gasket, so some water gets part way in. Cleaned them off and dried both the gasket and the gelcoat real good before I re-assembled it. The two screws seemed to work fine but on my port light the single center screw hole for the lens was stripped. I cut of the end of a zip tie and stuck it in the hole to give the screw some bite. I will probably take them off and check the gasket annually from now on.

Re: Help!!!

Electrical Experts, I'm having a repeat problem with the EIM breakers (blower x 2 and nav lights) tripping. This condition only occurs at night while running the generator. The breakers will not reset immediately, in each case I have waited until the following morning to reset. No problems running blowers and generator together during the day. Can't say if I recall running navigation light without generator running. Any suggestions?

Might want to re-post this in the "Electrical Stuff" forum. You'll get more hits from electrical experts. Also, precisely list the steps and order that result in the breakers tripping. E.G., is it just turning the generator on that magically trips the breakers, or is it the breakers trip when you turn on the associated item (independently or together?) when the genny is running.

Hi has anyone pulled out the engine? Mine has some problems with sea water impeller parts thats gone missing in the system, and also a gasket that blown on the exhaust.. so i have to take it out. Is there anyone that has done this before and maybe have som tips and tricks for me? Pictures would be great.
Also i need to take out the engine hatch, is that an easy task? I have a forklift to lift it but i was thinking about where the bolts are?

Thanks for any help!

I pulled both my engines for transom assy replacement. I will post some pics. To remove the hatch you need to remove aft seat and lift the hatch all the way up to see the screws.

We removed the aft seat, then lifted the hatch vertical (removed pin from ram) and tied it off so it couldn't fall. Access was fine, and meant you could put the hatch back down while we were waiting for the engine to be rebuilt.

Cockpit fridge died this weekend. Compressor runs and runs but no cold air. Was just going to replace it with the same Norcold model for form/fit/function ease of install and use. Did any of you that have replaced yours on the 02-07 model install a different manufacturer's model?

Oh, and cockpit speaker amp finally died (been on the blink since I bought the boat - current symptom is one speaker gets sound only if the volume is at or above a specific setting) and the hatch above the bed leaked. But the hatch was an easy fix - rubber gasket was just really dirty and full of gunk. Just had to clean it and the mating surface. They say problems happen in threes...

Figured it out, and got all out yesterday :) Thanks for the pictures!

Sorry, jumping in a little late.... I have same setup as Jim, rod holder on the trunk. I put the grill in a plastic box (Target special) and set it on the batteries in the ER. Two small hooks on the plywood aft wall of the ER allows some bungy cords to keep it place.

Plastic box gets pretty warm and bit warped but stays in place and keeps the nasty grill smell out of the cabin.

I don't hang out here as often as I used to...just saw your post. I had the same issue years back, here is a link to my post and solution to the problem. Hope this will get you aimed in the right direction. http://clubsearay.com/archive/index.php/t-12884.html

Hey Bill,
Sorry to see your fridge is misbehaving. How goes with the repairs? I owe you a call to catch up, but have been swamped this week.

No worries James. Looks like I will be in Annapolis all day on July 5. Might be an opportunity to meet up if you are at the lift then.

I priced the drop in replacement for my cockpit fridge - $700 for the Norcold DE-0740 (which is AC/DC). Looks like there is a 12V only version (DC-0740) for around $600. Maybe I'll just buy a $150 WMart indoor unit and duct tape it to the radar arch.

If you sleep on the boat - you will appreciate the Webasto Isotherm with ASU - I had it on my previous sail boat - and compared to the Norcold - it is night and day in noise difference. And it does wonders for your batteries while you are without shorepower :)

Has anyone replaced the Shurflo fresh water pump on a 2003 300 sundancer? I am not able to get to the boat until the 4th and wanted to get a replacement pump if needed. The problem just started. The pump runs but the pressure is very low. I will check the filter but figured it would be nice to have a spare pump incase its needed now or in the future. The Searay parts manual lists two part numbers: 2.8GPM IMP P/N 1128164 & 2.8GPM IMP soft MNT P/N 1480437. I checked the web and see the 2.8 GPM is obsolete and replaced with the Shurflo 3.0 Revolution or the Extreme series. Anyone upgrade when replacing the fresh water pump and was it a direct replacement?

Re: Help!!!

Jeff, Thanks for the link to your solution. I will have the marina contact S/R and see if the wire harness extension is still available.
