Last weekend my bilge blowers would trip and shut off after running my 5E for about 1/2 hour. I could start them up again and they would run about 5 min. then trip again...

I went to raise the engine hatch while this occured, it raised about 2 inches and tripped. I waited a few minutes and it went down.

The next morning, after everything cooled down overnight, the blowers ran about an hour with the gen running and then tripped again...

I seemed to have normal water flow through the exhaust, and it is not make more noise than normal...the breaker panel is in close to the 5E muffler.

Is it possible I'm not getting enough water flow through the muffler which causes the muffler to get warmer than normal and the heat is radiating on to the bulkhead where the breakers are?

Jeff,
This mysterious problem happened to me once this year as well. After running the generator for over an hour the bilge blowers stopped and needed both breakers reset. At the time I thought we had somehow overloaded the total amperage as we were running the TV, AC, Converter, lights and microwave. But the system is designed to run everything off the genset just as if you were plugged into shore power. After listening to the blowers run for a while, I concluded they just didn’t sound right. So, I cleaned out the motors, which are basically just inline fans and found they not only now sound better but have not tripped off since. Not sure if this was the problem.
Maybe the gremlins just moved on to your boat for a while.

Can you run the bilge blower OK w/out the generator?

Yeah, but I didn't test it to see if for how long....they will do 4 minutes ok before starting the twins...

JIM - When yours tripped, did it require you to manually reset the breaker(s)? Were your fan motors dirty or was there stuff in the ducts? My blowers sound the same as day one....

Yes, the breakers had to be reset manually, but this only happened once all season. The blowers likely had some dog fur in them as it gets everywhere, including the filter for the AC unit.

Generator / Bilge Blower problem - fix available...

Hi all....

I had the same problem (along with 3 other 300DA owners) recently on a trip to the Bahamas. Turns out that the EIM module located right above the generator would get too hot and would start tripping breakers, primarily the Bilge Blower circuit. You would then have to wait for the EIM module to cool off before the circuit could be reset.

Alas, some phone calls to the Sea Ray factory by the dealership alerted them to the problem and a fix was shortly designed. Sea Ray has fabricated a 6-8 foot "EIM Pigtail" that facilitate the relocation of the EIM to the battery control closet on deck from its current location. No heat means that the circuits don't trip!

Simply have your dealer inquire into the fix and they will do it under warranty! It works like a charm... can run the generator all day along with the bilge blowers, no problem!

Good luck....
