Where can I find expected performance data on a 2000 310? I have twin 350's v drives & the boat is a pig in the water. The engine guy blames the diver blames the props blames the boat etc, etc. Anybody with some straight poop?

you can e-mail Sea Ray from their website and they will send you the specs
ask for a prop chart

So lets' start at the beginning.... What are the symptoms? What are your RPM's at wide open throttle? If you are unable to hit the suggested range for WOT, then we talk props or tune-up or bottom crud. When you say it's a pig in the water, are you talking around the docks, just in general or gallons burned? I'm guessing straight inboards or I/O? My 30 footer gets up on plane a LOT faster than the 250 DA.

thanks for the efforts
here's the scoop
merc 350 (2) velvet drives (2) unknown prop pitch (3 blade)
port gearbox replaced 20 hrs ago ,2 new heads on port engine 6 hrs ago
poor performance preceeded both
boat is very hard to get on plane- port engine goes to 3800 rpm & starboard 4k to stay on plane @ about 20mph I am afraid to push the rpms much higher ( what is a safe rpm?) Port engine will not go to 4000rpm regardless of throttle.

Well you have some issues. The boat should get up in the high 4000 rpm - range. Which would imply that the boat has the wrong props. But with all of the other issues you are having - I would be concerned with the engines being tuned properly and that the bottom and running gear is not fouled up. Something is not right. My 320 with 350 Mag's is around 24 GPH at 3600 RPM's - cruising around 24 mph on the GPS.

My 300 DA planes very easily. I can put the engines to 3500 rpm and if just a few seconds I'm planing across the water. If I push it, I can get to 4600 rpm's easily, I just hate the sound of the motors revving that high. I can actually go higher, I just hate to do it and yes, I need more pitch!

I agree with Skolbe, you have some issues. Has it been tuned recently? What kind of hours on the engine? If everything checks out, then I'd start looking at the props to see compare it with the size others are running.

kenman,

You probably have the 1.5:1 reduction in your v-drives and stock 16x17 props. Sounds like the performance of my boat when I got it four years ago. When I needed props due to damage, a well-informed yard manager and prop shop put 16x15 props on it, and all the performance problems were cured. Top end went from 4000 RPM and 23 KTS up to 4600 RPM and 26 KTS. Cruise went from 19 KTS at 3400 RPM to 20 KTS at same 3400 RPM. Acceleration was noticably improved, and engines never seem labored. Yes, Sea Ray can make a mistake like that and ignore it for those owners. If your props have never been damaged, then a prop shop can do a computer scan and take two inches of pitch out of them.

I also have the 16 x 15 props and max RPM is 4,600................

Bill,

With 17 x 20 you must have a greater gear reduction. I think there was a change around 2002.

Sorry for the slight hi-jack, but was there a water ingestion problem on the 2001 era 310's with the 350 horizon V-drives? A guy at my marina told me he just had to replace his engines due to water coming in through the exhaust.

Not sure about the years. 1999 was definately involved, probably up to 2002. Please do a search

Ron

Not sure what the gear reduction is on my 2002, but I will see if I can find out this week end. I should be wet by the end of the week.

Also on another thread did I see you were interested in a camper canvas? I just had one made and will get pictures this week end and will post them.

Great, Bill. I need some examples from my style boat. You might want to PM me or start a new thread.

Veem supplied the props on that year 310 I believe. That is the problem I would suspect. Wrong pitch for the gearing.
