Just took delivery of this boat. It's an 07 with 350 MPI Vdrives. I have a number of questions that are fairly generic, but wonder if there is anyone else out there with this year and model.

Here we go:
1. How do I get to the AC strainer and how to unscrew it?
2. Tough to get to the generator, have to lie on my stomach on the engine. How often to check the oil and what about the other maintenance on this? Same oil type as engine?
3. Boat is in salt water 24/7 in So Fla. I assume a diver is mandatory, what is the typical fee for this service ? monthly ?
4. Any reason not to run the galley fridge and A/C all the time.? The dehumidify mode is nice, but I try to go on the boat twice a week and its very hot unless the A/C is on.
5. What spare parts do most people carry when out on the ocean. I was told prop and impeller, but have no clue how to change an impeller or prop. Time to learn? Where to learn?
6. The owners maual is very poor in my opinion on these and other questions. I cant find the online maual at the sea ray web site. Is it there?

Thanks for your patience with these newbie querries.

We upgraded from a single engine I/O and what a difference. Sea Ray and especially Marine Max here in SoFLA are terrific.

310

Congrats on the new boat. While I don't have the 310 (I have a 2005 320) also in Fort Lauderdale with the 350 V drives and know all about how tough it is to get to some of the strainers etc. If you want to PM me we can talk about maintenance and some of the spare parts for the boat, as well as location since we are both in the same area.

Do you keep it at a marina or at a private dock? If at a private dock, you might want to look at the device I have called a boat bunker. (they are now listed thru the Sea Ray Owners Club site as a partner). This is the 2nd boat I have owned and used with it and my last boat, a 25' Doral with NO bottom paint was in it for over a year and had NO growth on the bottom...Anyway, write me for more info if you'd like..

Thanks for the helpful info. The boat bunker seems like a neat idea. How do you keep your prop from tearing it up? Also, I figure the cost is about the same as four years of a diver.

It has a gate in the back that lowers and you can raise it after you bring the boat back in. My Doral was an I/O, and the 320 has twin 350 V Drives (inboards) The initial cost is a few thousand but no bottom painting or hauling out and no growth, plus it protects the sides around the dock. On my 25' Doral, bottom painting would have decreased the value of the boat, and even though I had a trailer, I live on the water and knew I would use it more if it was out back, so this was an ideal solution for me.

On my 320, even though I had the bottom painted when I bought it (it was a 2005), knowing I don't have to haul it out every year to repaint, or have divers go down to clean every few months will pay for it within a few years.

I have a 340 DA year 2000 with Vee drives and a brand new 5KW Westerbeke genset. No A/C (this is Southern California) so cannot help you there.

The main thing about the genset is changing the pencil zinc. I change mine about every 60 or 90 days. Usually before it really needs it.

Here in So Cal you can suck up kelp in the genset intake pretty easily, and what happens then is the genny gets hot, and fries the salt water impeller, which is plastic. I solved this problem completely by putting an eggshell brass strainer on the exterior intake of the boat. Haven't had a seaweed incident since. Best $20 I ever spent. It got old diving down in cold water and pulling the seaweed out of the intake.

Keep an eye on the coolant. Some gennys do use coolant, and need it topped off now and again.

Obviously you are going to check the oil often on the genny, but usually they don't use much oil, in my experience.

Hope this helped.
