1st off Hello, newbie here. Looking at 2 Sundancer 340's, 1 has only 80 hours and is exceptionally clean but has 6.2L engines, other has 210 hours, clean as well but has 8.1L engines. Any pros and cons appreciated. Difference in cruise speed, fuel economy ( if there were such a thing ) and bigger concern resale value down the road. Thanks for reading and all comments appreciated.

As always it depends....... outdrives or V drive? '99-2002 or 2003-2008? Generally speaking the preferred set up with the 340s is big block v-drive anything else should sell for much less. Because the earlier boat is the size of a late model 320 and has only 19 degrees of deadrise you can get away with the 6.2s and v-drives

The newer generation 340 is preferred with big blocks - the small blocks are decent with a 320 but a bit small with the new 340.

340DAs with the small blocks are VERY VERY hard to sell and resell. Watch out. I personally think they are underpowered.

What year are we talking? The older gen 340s (2nd half 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002/3) are narrower and lighter than the next gen (>2003) so 6.2s wouldn't create quite the underpowering issue as with the newer incarnation. However, given a choice, I'd rather have the larger engines.

Were 6.2s even offered in the later gen 340s???

Thank you, boats are 2005's. I got a little suspicious since the dealer with the 6.2's seemed to call every day trying to get me to do deal. I imagine they would work however I am always concerned with resale. Easy choice now, thanks to your comments.

Guess that answers that question. 6.2s in the larger 340 would be a no-go for me. With the extra 1'6" of length, 7" of beam and 2K lbs dry weight the smaller engines would be working real hard.
