Hey Gang!
Completed the helm electronics update. Thanks to T Daleo, Capt Rusty, Frank W, and many more, I was able to get it done myself and professional !
I pulled out all old electronics, all old wire and coax, still have to remove old Loran and GPS antennas.
Installed new E165 Raymarine Display, 18' HD Color Radar, sonar (and new IN-hull transducer, we'll see how it works), and NMEA 0183 modified Type 100 to be compatible on STng. (touch screen drives autopilot natively)
One tip is to use a Garmin GPS 19x NMEA 2000 antenna, no matter what installation manufacturer you are using. I'm 100% Raymarine, but their GPS antenna are hugely inferior and have less mounting options. The 19x has under deck mounting options, and I get WAAS coverage inside my metal storage building right now. Amazing !! Not to mention it interfaces to nmea 2000 with a raymarine adapter cable and is only $100 or so !!! WOW
Also the old Raymarine radomes have different bolt patterns than the new HD Color series, so I solved that with a SeaStar 5" riser which serves as an "adapter" plate. It's nice having another 5" of height for the raydome too.
If you'd like any details let me know. The Huge 16" display is pretty sweet! Still need some overall tweaks, but it's mostly done. Hope you like.
