Looking for advice

Removed the carpet today, thank you for all the previous posts on here, it sure did make this a lot better. The inventor of the multi tool better be a millionaire!

Searched all over this site. Looking for people that do not keep their climate control on year round, we winterize in illinois. What product did you use? The temps in the midwest go from 0-100 F…. Just noticed some of the products are only good down to 50F… maybe it doesn’t matter, but I would like to hear from people how it worked out

Also, on the 380, there is an area in front of each closet by the bed, and port side near the fridge that has an angle/raised area. How did that work?

Thanks in advance!

That is pretty cool. IMHO since you have the cherry cabinetry I would try to use flooring that is matching. Or close to matching.

I am a big fan of running the boards bow to stern. My rule of thumb has always been to let the pattern lead you

I appreciate you saying why you think one way or the other. To me, running across seems easier, as far as not having to rip as many pieces, but a lot more small cuts. Bow to stern should make the hatches line up good as you walk into the salon, be pleasing to the eye.

Thank you!

Lengthwise makes the area feel larger and side to side smaller.

+1 on running the planks bow to stern. My Dad was a stickler for design details. One of his big things was which way the floor boards should run. As others have said, you want the boards to run “into” the room. That would be bow to stern. Otherwise, it looks as if you’re walking down a pier.

I’m partial to the wider planks. I too like the cherry, but I would be mindful of making the salon too dark. Good luck. It’s going to look amazing.

That app is pretty cool, (just make sure your seams are not as close as that lighter flooring option shows) make sure you use a higher grade adhesive/glue as that will help with the temp changes you encounter. I’m in Michigan and did this on our old 410, I replaced the floor hatches with new 3/4 marine grade plywood (way too many staples to try and remove) and trimmed them out to match.

Thank you! What product and glue did you use? I really am curious to know because if the temp change…. A lot I have looked at is floating, I wasn’t sure what would be best to ise(planned to glue the hatches

I used a product by “Robert’s” for the adhesive, I believe it was 1407 but check with manufacturer.
Also I used Acasia engineered flooring and glued it all, yes even the hatches, but of course you can use a micro pinner nailer for the trim on the hatches

I used the vinyl from Home Depot. We've really enjoyed not having carpet/runners. Having easy access to the hatches has been quite nice too. It opens up a lot of storage that was previously a pain to get to (runners).

Looks great! Where did you get the hatch trim from?

I like that deep cherry color in #9288 what product/color is that?

Thank you, sir. The trim came from jonnycorners.com

FWIW my floor is floating (except for hatch covers). I'm not sure why you'd need/want to glue this stuff down. It's not going to move around on ya...
I have done a lot of floors using the vinyl floating material and once locked in place......it doesn't move.....at all. Some of the vinyl floors have an overlap adhesive strip on them now instead of the locking ridge put I really prefer the lock type.

This would be an easy decision for my boat since the carpeting needs replacement but I have a hard time getting the right color floor to match the Sovereign Cherry cabinets so I keep going back and forth between carpet...vinyl and wood.:(

I was hoping for an answer like this. My concern is the temp swing. My boat probably gets down below 30 and up to 85 degrees F…. Most flooring says 50-100 iirc, not sure if the glue would help or not

As I am looking at flooring, I see 4mils, 6mils, 12mils, and 28mils

What exactly is that and how important is it for my salon floor?

That's the thickness of the planks. Generally thinner will be easier to work with. Mine was 6 or 6.5. I don't think I could find any finishes I liked in thinner mill at the time I was shopping.

I would definitely avoid going thicker than 6-8 +/- as it gets more challenging to fit under/around certain features...and it also gets heavier. I was shocked by how heavy this stuff is.
