390 Ec Engine overhauls with increased HP

Thanks for the update, glad to hear you found out what the mystery metal was. Better than that, but pieces were from one thing.
Now you gotta be sure to keep your fingers on them washers!
 
Not looking forward to doing the other head ? Look at ALL the money you saved by not pulling motors. Phew

If this had not worked out and the knock was still there then I was going to pull both motors and have them rebuilt with slightly upgraded camshafts. If I had done all the work myself that would have cost 10-12k. As it is the one motor ran only 1k and about 25-30 hours with all the clean up and repainting I did. Figured I saved about $2500 by doing the work myself. End result it runs and looks great. At 64 years old those heads and manifolds are alot heavier than they used to be but it is still rewarding when after 35-40 years since I've had one of these torn down that it fired up instantly with no leaks or problems. :grin:
