4.3 alpha1
I think my exhaust manifolds are cracked, my 4.3 has the one peice manifolds, and all the replacements i can find are two peice center risers. I have also found conversion kits, can anyone tell me what the deal is? I keep getting water into the cylinders. I replaced the longblock and it only has about 5 hours on it with no problems other than this. this is what lead to the failure of the original engine. is there a defect in the 1 peice manifolds? what is involved in the coversion? any ideas?

Check this out. This guy is local to me and a straight shooter.

Thats cheap as hell. I paid almost $1000 for mine 2 years ago. At that time the conversion kit was hard to find and mine are OSCO's

is there an advantage to the 2 peice other than parts availability? i got a set of 2 peice manifolds already and i am in the process of installing them. is this a common problem? the one peice manifolds were $690.00 each! i got the two peice manifolds for free with the elbows by calling in a few favors, but the risers are bad. $399 is a steal hows the quality?

The problem with the one piece was during the time I was looking, no one made them! GLM said they were and another said they were going to. At last look GLM still hadn't. Plus, you can't disassemble and inspect. And anything that goes wrong you replace the whole thing. IF you had fresh water cooled manifolds you could replace only the elbows. All I can say is in 2006 GLM was going to have the one piece in the spring. Last summer it still said the same thing. Good luck.

an update on my situation. i had water getting into cyl #1,3,5 all the port side. i pulled the manifold and found it and the ports full of water. i cheaped out and installed a used set of 2 peice manifolds, still getting water in the port cylinders. the engine is a fresh longblock compression is good on all cylinders is there any way i can test the manifolds? its a raw water setup so i dont think i can pressure test the whole system. the water only happens after the engine is shutoff in the water for a few minutes or after its on the trailer, it will run all day if its not shut off. i dont mind spending the money to fix it, but i would like to be able to prove whats wrong rather than just throwing parts at it.

another update. i pulled the lower manifold off today with the hose attached. i filled the water side through the hose to the top with water i dyed with koolaid and let it sit. i found a crack that was highlighted by the koolaid stain where the casting part line is on the inside. now that i have proved its the manifold i will replace them. thanks everyone for the input.

coastal, as much as i would love to have some of your manifolds they are out of my price range right now. i will keep them in mind for the future. thanks for all the help.
