40 sedan bridge forum

wow, u got it almost right on. I'm 5.8 and 151lbs ;) so I should be more then good LOL...

Here's a suggestion when working on the vacuflush generators. Take a few extra minutes and remove the frame for the starboard bunk, and place it in the salon. Once that frame is out of the way, it's not so difficult to work in that area. I'm 5' 11" and 200 pounds and I get around just fine.

couldn't you place the PWC sideways, not in driving direction, behind the hatch? Just wondering, what would be the downside beside it may looks a little odd and the increased wind resistance... or maybe the bow david doesn't allow the location...

Yeah, real estate is tight up there - but not a bad idea. Maybe a sliding hatch and remove straps from the tender. Might allow leverage to push it out of the way in an emergency.

Another challenge I'd like solved is how to get from the PWC (or dinghy) back onto the boat after hooking up the davit sling - gracefully. Without swimming around to the swim platform it requires a balancing act and leap of faith - standing on the handlebars of the PWC, getting a foot hold on the gunwale, and pulling on the rail to heave myself over. A few more years or pounds and this won't be an option. Anyone seen a proper process for bow hoisting a tender?

Mine toot just fine when I just blow hard into the horn itself.

Yeah, that’s doing nothing on mine. So I called Marinco and left a message asking about getting the diaphragms and - while I’m at it - new rubber gaskets. Someone in another thread on CSR had luck doing that. So I’m going to see if I can get parts first. I did bring home the horns to try them on my home compressor, too. Nothing to lose there! And I found a site with the complete replacement horns for $100 less than Amazon ... just in case I need to go that route. I found a lot of other horns too, but I don’t want to mount them externally. And they are all straight. Without the bend in them to direct the sound, I’m afraid of deafening anyone in the forward state room should I blow the horn when someone is in there. Plus, the sound can get lost in the bow if not directed out.

I only had one horn when I bought the boat. One was missing. I bought two new exact replacements. For me the ease of install of the exact replacement was worth every penny of their cost. I did take apart and clean the original afterwards and it then worked fine. I still have it in the attic somewhere.

A fact not lost on me, either! How do the replacements sound? Like a decent boat horn? Or crappy Sea Ray ducks?

Hi all - Looking at purchasing a 2001 400 DB with Cat 3126 diesel power. It does not have a bow thruster, which I think would be a big benefit in this vessel. No chance these boats are pre-wired for one, is there? (It might sound silly, but I remember looking at a Monterey that did not have a windlass, but was factory pre-wired for one. Thought that was nice touch).

No chance. My 2001 does not have a bow thruster and there is no extra wiring lying around for it.

As already mentioned - probably not wired for a thruster. I have a 2000 400DB with the 3116's and it is very responsive. I haven't really found a need for a bow thruster.

Mine has Cummins 450s and no thruster. I’ve docked in some tight spots and some windy conditions. Not always the first time, but she’s plenty responsive with twin diesels and far apart props. I’m not sure I’d get a bigger boat without a thruster, but I wouldn’t call it a deal breaker in a 400. Plus, it’s a $10k negotiating chip during your purchase!

Solid deep tone. And plenty loud. Definitely not the duck quack of my previous Sundancer.

Well, after reassembling, I tried them on the garage air compressor. One tooted (the shorter one) at about 4 psi. The other one wouldn’t make any sort of real horn sound until closer to 6psi. I can’t believe that tiny compressor can output that level for two horns. The diaphragms must just be too old and brittle to vibrate properly. I succumbed and ordered new Marinco AFI 11058 horns today. New compressor comes with. They will arrive Tuesday.

By happenstance, I found the compressor in behind a closet the other day, and the sound from my horn is "anemic" at best. Where are the horns located, in the anchor locker? or in the cabinetry?

Does anyone have a cockpit bench seat for SeaRay 40sb in good condition for sale?

Anyone replaced exhaust hoses on mercruiser gas, noticed the other the starboard/far side hose was very soft.
Under way the hose vibrates and creates a different sound than port motor.
Noticed starboard felt a little warmer than port, gauges read normal.
I’m planning on replacing all exhaust hoses.
Any know the ID or OD, part number?
Thanks!
Happy Labor Day !

What year? I googled the following and found parts manuals for 2001 and 2002 right away. I’m sure you can locate others, too. I have a 2003, if you need a copy. Someone on here probably has one for your year. In it, it does list the ID’s for all the hoses. I know, because I replaced a couple earlier this year. Here’s the one for the 2001:

Thanks Scooper!
I have my original owners bag with all the manuals, I should have looked there!
Mine is a 1998

Great! It’s still annoying because you have to decipher the code the hoses are written in. But the detail is there!

That was great advice! I removed the frame and it was so much easier to get to it! Thanks a bunch :) I have a bad vacuum switch. Since it is such a pain to get to the vacuum switch, I'll replace on both systems the vacuum switches and all duckbills. Is there anything else I should replace/check while I'm already working on it?

When you remove the pump assembly to replace the duckbills, take out the 8 screws (maybe it's 6 screws - I forgot) on the assembly and pull it apart and check that the bellows has no cracks in it. Could replace the bellows and o ring since it's all probably factory original.
