Could be the power supply in the vac.

What I would do is get a short extension cord, plug the vac to the extension, then try plugging in on another circuit.

If it trips again, take the vac out, take it home and open it up.

IIRC there is a transformer that drops it from 120v to 24v.

I repaired mine for about $25 with a new transformer found on eBay.

Thats good advice and a quick way to narrow it down. I’ll give that a try!

I’m sitting on the bridge of my 400DB and wondering if Searay thought only people with very short legs would sit at the helm table. It is designed for very short people.

Man, that table is ... not ideal. It’s impossible to get people sliding around it to use the full amount of seating. Has anyone replaced it with something smaller but still functional? I’d love to see pics!

The standard table is designed to use a small pole and fit into the cushion area to create a sun pad. Problem is I do not have the cushions. @Nepenthe has a smaller custom table on his bridge. Maybe he will post some pictures.

Yeah, I have neither that pole or pad. And with the canvas up full time, that’s not a sun bathing spot. I imagine I could get any table made and just mount it to the mount on the current table...

What about your table that’s in your bar ? that tables fits up there well. I like it gone when it’s more than Linh and up there.

Steve, I bought one in teak and foldable. It came out of England. I will see if I can find the company name in my file. Greg

Thanks. I know the company you’re talking about. I think others on CSR have bought from them.

Steve it came from Marine Teak. I can't find the length I got, I will need to measure. It was the Nautical Star Wing model. I coated with 2 coats of Semco sealer, it looks great.

My boat has 8.1 Mercruisers. I've recently ran into a problem electronically that keeps raising it's ugly head.

This started when I had a battery go bad on my starboard side. I went to start the engine and had nothing. The battery was bad, so I removed it, along with the house battery and the port battery as well. Bought 3 new batteries and installed them.

Went to start the starboard and had nothing. Did an emergency start and it started right up. Shut it off, tried to restart, nothing. Did the emergency restart, started.

So after troubleshooting I found the 90 amp fuse on the starter was bad. Replaced it, and everything is good.

Over a couple of weeks, started the engine several times, no problem. Then took the boat out and anchored, sat on anchorage for 4 to 5 hours, then went to start the starboard engine and......nothing.

Checked the voltage at the battery, fine, checked at the starter, fine. Checked the 90 amp fuse, fine.

Did and emergency start, and it started, but as soon as I released the emergency switch the engine died. Now before, if I started on emergency, the engine would continue to run after releasing emergency. Now it won't.

So I rigged the emergency switch to stay on, and motored back to the dock.

This has happened twice now. I can trace voltage from the battery to the starter, no problem. The 90 amp fuse supplies power to the engine computer continuously. I have voltage on it.

It's as if the ignition CB on the electrical panel is off. I have tested the CB and it's working.

Finally, I confirmed the engine alternator is working. It's churning out 14 volts.

I wonder if the carling switch for the starboard ignition on the flybridge is failing? It has two functions, the first to energize the ignition circuit, then a momentary position to start. It's just odd that it will work fine at the dock, and then fail away from the dock.

i had this issue on mine too intermittent had to try several time to press the switch then it will start ,replaced the carling switch ,its still happen ,now its good
wondering if it is a faulty ground doing it ...

i made the decision to replace my 2 merc .,my boat will be out the water for few weeks .like to get opinion on what else could be done while in shipyard
many thanks

With the engines out, now is the time to replace the hose from the vacuflush generator to the holding tank. You won’t have this access again.

Clean the bilge. If it were mine I would paint it.

Of course, replace all hoses.

If your boat isn’t already equipped, consider new dripless shaft seals.

I’m beginning to think I have a bad carling switch.

Gonna order new ones in the morning.

It might be a ground issue - did you measure voltage during cranking at that fuse? If there is a loose or questionable wiring connection (usually ends up being grounding) and that connection cannot carry the current the voltage which indicates 12 volts at zero current now reads nothing when current is demanded. The bigger hazard here is that there is usually sparking and wiring that is getting hot in these situations.

After sleeping on it last night, I believe I answered my own question.

It's the carling switch. The switch has two functions, the first is to energize the start circuit, and the momentary side is to energize the starter. The part of the switch that is failing is the side that energizes the start circuit. We know this because when the emergency start is enabled, the momentary start part works fine. And as long as the emergency start is held down, it energizes the start circuit, when released it kills the ignition circuit.

I'm ordering new carling switches this morning.

I'm going to ohm out the old switch later today.

Thanks.

I had someone damage my screen door yesterday and I wanted to know if you guys know where I can get a new one? Thanks in advance!

Well, out at the boat. Starboard engine starts like nothing ever happened.

I hate intermittent problems. I did order a new carling switch. I’m going to replace it anyway.
