40 sedan bridge forum

i watched this recently for a generator removal and replacment, not one of our boats but might be useful

I've really been enjoying this guy's Youtube channel. Very informative. I've even learned a few things here and there from Boogaboo when he had his 400 a few years ago and about the same time I bought mine. The 2nd inline muffler for the gen is one of the best things that I've done.

Ideally i need to remove the trim at the bottom of the interior of the windscreen, to fix up the vinyl which is coming off. Question is, will it come out without removing anything else, it sits under the trims on the windscreen surrounds hoping i don't have to remove those
I have a 2001 with the three piece window. But looks like same concept. The 6 vertical trim pieces should be held in with Christmas tree fasteners. Just pull them off. Then you can remove the bottom trim piece. On mine the bottom piece is also held in with Christmas tree fasteners. Yours looks to be screwed in.

Update: I just looked at mine and those double horizontal vinyl strips are screwed to the window frame with two screws through the metal piece they are attached to.

Thanks Bill, next time on the boat I’ll gingerly get in there and have a go, hopefully the guest cabin roof won’t give way under my 82kg

Trunk Latch
I am looking to replace the latch for the trunk hatch accessible off of the swim platform. It was broken when I got the boat years ago, with what appears to be pieces missing. I know that it is made by Eberhard, and is of the Eclipse line, however there are 3 different latching mechanisms, and I am not sure which one to look for and purchase.

The latching mechanisms are Slam, Pull Ring and Paddle-Handle. I think that the Slam option can be ignored as the handle appears to be different.

Has anyone had to replace this, and can advise which model to purchase? I have checked Flounder Pounder without success.

tks

I agree, the Boogaboo videos on searay hatch and window reseals I am sure i will use one day. iMHO I wouldn’t use his gel coat polish technique, and looking at the pin stripe removal video I might not try that , looks fraught .

I mistyped. I meant to write: “The double vinyl vertical trim strips”, not horizontal.

btw 2nd inline muffler I assume is fine for Gas but I read somewhere it's not recommended by Westerbeke for Diesel because of back pressure.

Yes. Here’s a picture of my 2001. That entire piece with two vinyl covered strips on it, is held to the frame with two screws. You can see the screw caps in the picture. I’m going with a hunch that yours has barbed fasteners rather than the two screws.

Ah I see. Hopefully you don’t have screws because the fasteners broke :)

My six factory engine room hatch gas lifters weren’t getting it done. The two interior hatches had 100# lifters and the cockpit hatch had 40# lifters. The interior hatches would sometimes stay up but mostly not. If they did stay up any slight bump brought them crashing down. The cockpit hatch was worse. The lifters just kinda propped the hatch vertical so it wouldn’t fall under its own weight. But didn’t hold it up at all. The slightest breeze brought it down. So, I bought 150# for the interior hatches and replace the 40# cockpit hatch with two 100# I took from the interior. All good. Now you actually have to use a little force to push the hatches down past the 45 degree angle where the weight of the hatch takes over. A lot safer. The bridge hatch also has 40# lifters, but that works out just fine for that little door.

Opened up the boat for the season yesterday and was thinking about replacing my side nav lights. The white plastic body is pretty chalky, and would like to go with new stainless. Swore I saw these years ago in stainless, but can't find them again. Was thinking about going with these. Granted, the originals lasted 25 years...
Replaced both windlass foot switches with new stainless Maxwell's. The switches were fine and seriously bedded onto the deck, so decided to leave them. They swtiches below work fine and are rarely used. The plastic caps looked horrible. The new covers were a direct easy screw down fit. Next weekend, both heads get new style screens and gaskets in the portlights.

I was wondering what the new style screens and gaskets are? I got same boat as you and need new screens and gaskets on both of my heads and the originals are no longer available.

As near as I can tell, the old style screen was kind of mounted into the hatch itself. The new or retro refit comes with a new screen in a plastic frame with new gasket. I've watched a couple of Youtube videos on it.
Seems pretty straightforward. I had initially just ordered the screen frame itself, but looks like I need the new gasket as well. Here's a pic of mine that I took yesterday. I believe that we have the Bomar S616 portlights vs. the S718 if anyone can confirm.

Which covers did you order for the windlass deck controls? I ordered the wrong size and had to send them back.
I need to replace because my plastic ones are brittle.

For the nav lights, if you don’t want to paint them, try searching the numbers in post #4741. Pictures appear to be lost from the site meltdown a while back. They still look new. Might be the same as the ones you’re looking at. They were an exact replacement for the old oem white ones.

I bought these. Got mine from Hodges Marine, but this part number. I didn’t see a reason to unbed the factory switch and tossed the new ones in my parts stash. Just used the cap and rubber step pad. Nice heavy casy stainless. Screw holes align. They were $226 for the pair at Hodges.

The factory 2001 port lights are those clip in screens. I never new there was an earlier version with screens bedded in.
