Hi all,

Looking to upgrade to an 06-08 40 sundancer. Let me know if anyone is looking to sell, ideally in northern half of the US.

I went thru the same search 5 years ago. I wanted diesel it was impossible to find a clean one. One day we were looking at marinas and stumbled into our current 420. It was brought into the brokerage that day to sell. We bought it right there.
There are a lot more 420’s out there. In the end we were glad we went up in size and the extra head is a huge plus

Same with me. Staring looking at 380’s (previous generation to 400), decided on diesels so broadened search to 410’s (previous generation to 420).
Diesel 380’s, like the 400’s that came after them, are pretty rare.
Having the slightly wider beam, second head and diesels in my 410 sure is nice!

I have a friend selling a super clean freshwater 2008 40 hardtop optioned out. Radar, KVH, awesome, 8.1HO's, amazing AV system, he even had a 7kw diesel genset installed. Located on Lake Lanier, GA.

Installed a diesel Genny on a gas boat?

A gas powered boat with a diesel generator? I wonder if most folks will think that's a typo when they see the listing. :)

Thanks, do you have a link to the listing? I'm interested in taking a look.

He doesn't have it listed, just selling by word of mouth. I'll see if I can get some photos and specs and pricing for you and if you are interested see how he wants to proceed. It is in really good condition and very low hours.

Yes, please do. I'll send you a message with my email address.

This would be a really cool set up on Lake Minnetonka where diesel engines aren't really needed but the Diesel generator would really maximize use while on the hook or overnight.

Just to be contrarian for a moment - I think it would be a pain in the butt. The only upside is that can you can run it CO free, all night long. If you're not doing this all the time it's going to be pure pain? Now I have a small diesel fuel tank I have to think about, keeping the fuel fresh, racors?, fuel polishing?, what are all these other diesel topics I've got to learn about now? ha.

Especially in the north where we really shouldn't need to run the air all night long but for a few nights, this option seems a bit out there.

I'm not sure I've ever fueled up at a fuel dock with gas and diesel at the same pump, or in the same slip. I can only imagine the b&^%ing I'll be doing when I have to fill up my two gas tanks, then move the boat over 2 slips to fill up my diesel tank. I need a beer just thinking about this...:):)

Fair points...Having had diesel boats not for 6 season none of these would concern me but it likely comes down to how the OP uses the boat. I would be all for the bit of hassle to have a diesel generator. The piece of mind that the reduced CO gives me out ways the hassle. Just a personal thing.

Just as a point of interest, this isn’t quite as odd-ball as one might think. There is at least one boat currently in production that has both diesel and gasoline fuel tanks.

The Back Cove 34o is powered by twin gas outboards with a 250 gallon tank. It also has a separate 25 gallon tank to supply a diesel generator. I’d bet that the pending 39o model has the same type of setup.

That diesel genny option would be a huge selling point to me with how much anchoring we do. I have had nothing but issues with the Kohler gas gennies i had on two boats. They're garbage in my opinion.. I now have an Onan diesel genny and it is awesome...
Good luck with your search and finding a boat that meets your needs.
