410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

The Glendinning sync is all mechanical. The tach on the CAT is driven by a separate sender that counts teeth on the ring gear.

I love my Glendinning sync. Not fancy, Low MX and they work very well.

edit

Call them, I have found them pretty responsive. I’m sure they can get you the right partsandhelp plan/execute the install.

Thanks. Odd that the Sturdy gets its tach signal from the existing magnetic pickups whereas the Glendinning is all mechanical. Curoius as to why there are even inputs for tach senders on the Glendinning unit...

Being mechanical, doesn’t need an electronic signal. Can’t do cool things as well, but as a synchronizer, it’s bulletproof

There is electrical for the Glendinning. If I remember - there are two limit switches and a solenoid. When you engage at the helm a solenoid connects the two rotating gears inside of the syncro and that is what balances the RPM. The limit switches are to disable if the thing goes too far out of spec. A pic from the one on my 400DA

THanks. Spoke to Glendinning on the phone and got all the answers I was looking for. Great people and very helpful. Unfortunately, they are in a holding pattern due to parts shortages so I'm on the list for when they are up and producing new units again...

What do you estimate the cost to be and how did you determine your system was beyond repair

Is this someone on here? Looks amazing, I know others here have made a top as well.

Where is that located? I saw a custom hardtop 400 in Muskegon, MI listed a month or two back (for a silly price). But I think the hardtop looked a bit different...

I just went back to the Facebook thread and he answered in the comments….custom job in Australia

I'm considering adding a 32" tv in the salon. I'd like to put it on the fwd stb side of the salon. Has anyone removed this mirror? Tried gently prying with plastic tools but was a bit afraid of breaking it. I found this post where someone mounted on the wall of the fwd head but I'm concerned on how far the tv will stick out. http://www.clubsearay.com/index.php?threads/nevercold-finally-gave-out.90019/page-2

We have slightly different layouts (400 vs 410) but I find that location to be perfect. Easy access to mounting hardware and wiring from the closet and it's definitely out of the way. The viewing angle is surely better mounted on the port side but I really don't watch much TV on the boat, it's mostly for the kids.

No clue on the mirror, unfortunately. Mine was installed by a prior owner...

Had multiple parts failures on the unit over the years requiring replacement parts that are no longer available from the manufacturer. Got tired of scouring ebay and the web to find the needed parts. At one point I bought a used Strudy unit just to canibalize parts. Its been an ongoing problem for years.

Latest failure was the death knell. Was headed back after a day out and the synchro stopped working mid trip. Got back to the dock, opened the engine hatch and got the distinct smell of burnt plastic/electrical. The Strudy had scorch marks and melted plastic on the housing that covers the electrical/electronic components. Checked the innards and they're fried. Funny thing, fuse never blew.

I'd love to mount a TV there, but have not figured out how to remove either. My guess is there is a very larhe amount of industrial adhesive holding that thing in/up.

Correct about the electrical power. I was referring to the speed/rpm control side of the unit, it is all mechanical, and does not interface with the tachometers, hence no need for the Glendinning pickups.

About to tackle rebedding the center bow rails as they're way overdue. Any advice on how to remove the vinyl headliner in the stateroom to get to the bolts?

i recently replaced some lights in the salon and noticed screws at the edge where light fixture overlaps vinyl. i have read where there may be screws at corner edges under the vinyl. i have a 2006 40 sundancer da.
good luck

Anybody with a 1999-2004 410 at the boat this morning that can measure the max thickness of a mattress that will fit under the hanging locker door to port up front in the V-Berth?

I have to order a bed for a temporary stay for my mother at a assisted living facility after some surgery. I was going to repurpose instead of throw it away, so trying to plan ahead.

dang we just left. I have a 8” memory foam that has to be squished a couple inches for the door to swing open all the way

I’m pretty sure we have access panels to all the stanchions. Do you not? I’ll check ours next time I’m there. Getting the headliner down (and ultimately back up) is a tall task
