420/44 DB Owners Club

I think I am going to take some video of the area including rudders and see if water is somehow spraying towards platform bolts or something since I did see a few water drops on the port rudder shaft.

Good plan, I guarantee it’s not the platform through bolts. The rudder is the first place to look, especially if it’s salt water.

Hi All,
Has any one replaced their water heater? Same brand, larger, smaller? Was it hard to remove the starboard exhaust pipe? Did you use pipe sealer when reinstalling? Tips or Tricks? If you have pictures, please share.

Thanks in advance.

LG
If you are going to pull the exhaust while in the water here is what I did to prevent water from entering

while working.

They were all loose, it appears the marine wood they used inside to spread the force of the bolts has deteriorated.
Oh dear … May I ask what brand of hydraulic swim platform you have?

I don’t seem to have any wood inside - Did you have to replace any of it?

Thanks.

It is the original that came with the boat, it has the same brackets as yours. The previous owner may have had it remounted since the wood does not look like it was done on the original installation.

GHS make great platforms. I did have mine retorqued when it was suspected to be leaking but the shipyard then said the platform mount bolts weren’t the source of the leaks despite the staining (not found loose?) and the focus then went to the port rudder which was indeed the cause.

does anyone know what blackwater tank (gauge) sending unit we have. my boat is a 06.
thanks

I have not been able to see the Generator stats but we are working on that. Onan has not been real helpful yet. Worst case I will reinstall my diesel view in the fiberglass under the 12" axiom.

As mentioned in a couple of threads, you will need to put your generator data on the n2k network. Once there, a few check boxes on the vv703 and you will be golden

thats what we are struggling with. We need to know how to do it. Onan has not been helpful thus far.

could I not just keep my diesel view and place it in a different spot. Then if it goes out upgrade to maretron.
I thought if Onan could be upgraded to the n2k then my VV703 would read it. Is that not the case.
Didn't you change out the diesel view harness?

He has changed everything out. The VV703 seems fine. It is even showing fuel burned per hour, not sure if it’s going to show range as my boat is under a roof and not connecting to gps.
The VV also seems to be connecting to the Axioms ok. I just do not want to give up any info I have. If I have to buy a Maretron to display it on why could I not just put my DV
BACK in dash until it quits. The VV 703 has the screen for the info it’s just not receiving it.
Oh I need to add all this electronic stuff has me baffled sir.

Did you read the thread I linked?
The maretron j2k100 is not a display, it converts the data your modified NIM (Network Interface Module) on your generator to the data the vv703 and your MFDs will be able to display

Pretty sure that your diesel view is now useless to you. Forget about it
