454 filled with mayonnaise?

So I may as well continue the controversy. I just got home from the shop. I was able to pressure test the coolant passages of the block. I blocked off the raw water pump, and the hoses going to the manifolds now removed. Using an automotive coolant pressure tester, I cut an adapter used to test radiator caps so I could hook that to one of the hoses. Then I attached the pump and guage to the hose.
I pumped it up to 18 psi, and it held steady for about 10-15 minutes.
So now I presume the port manifold was cracked externally. But it was the starboard side that was cracked internally as it was that side #4 (if I remember right) that had low compression (100 psi compared to 130)
But now I know the block is serviceable for rebuild this winter.

Good for you Man!

You seem to have the knowledge to calculate the risks of light duty running this year and the ability to square things away in the off season.

Avoiding the “throw it out and buy a new one” culture so popular among boaters shows moxie.

I’ve been told to replace my AC units simply due to their age when all they needed was minor parts replacement and cleaning. I saved 6 grand and the boat is like an ice box.

Enjoy the remainder of the season.

We all look forward to some pictures of her out on the water! Times a wasting!

Its always been for me to maximize my ability. If I simply paid my way through life, I'd get nowhere. I'm the guy they pay to fix there stuff or bring them their stuff. And at times my ability to keep up with older equipment that I maintain insults the Johnny Bluebloods in the Cruiser World.

Update, I ordered the manifolds, risers, elbows and oil cooler today. I hope to edit the video of the work done so far over this weekend if the parts don't arrive before I get to that.

Sorry for the delay. I filmed the disassembly and just got finished with the editing. Here is the first installment of the issues in this thread.

Nice work. Seems like you have realistic expectations and having fun doing it together as father and son.

Blue Bloods lol! For me working on the boat is just as much fun as being on the boat!

I got her together and running. Idles fine and ran quite a long time without overheating. Tomorrow she will be splashed for the first time with us. One night overnight at a Green Bay marina is planned. Of coarse I will video our first trip out on her.!
