460 DA Spurs Install

Marine Max service claimed this add on was not available as there was not an application fit for the 460 due to a long taper on the shaft.

But being the dauntless if I want I want owner that I am I went to Spurs direct and discussed the issue. They said, if it floats we can install them and we've got WO for about every boat out there.

These went on in October of 05. On this haul out the spurs were reconditioned and reinstalled.

If you boat in areas that are littered with jetsom net, fishing rope, or, the bane of the Keys, carb pots these cutters are the BOMB!

The first year I had this boat I snagged vast qualities of mono net, rope in one case a scary glob of mono net that would fill a pick up truck. For the last 18 months nothing comes home with me I don't invite!

Still happy with your spurs?

I have my boat out right now for dripless shaft seals and a few other items. I thought now would be my golden opportunity to get them installed.

Yes, spurs are life savers here in SoFla. We have a lot of line in the coastal waters as well as crab/lobster pots placed in channels. Try as you might, you still get caught up in it.

Be mindful these have their own zincs which must be serviced. The units must be re conditioned about every other haul out. They are worth the cost to me.

I am going thru this at the moment on a 540. I spoke with SPURS a couple of days ago and the woman I talked to said they need a little over an inch of straight shaft.

Any thoughts? I am going to give them a call back to see if I can get the same response as you.

Did you use a shaft extender? Spur sells these also.
