Does anyone know external sea strainer screens are attached to the hull of a ‘04 mine have partially rotted away any the yard doesn’t know if they are screw in or through hull type. They said they can only tell when she’s hauled for the winter
Thank you any input

Confirmed that the strainers are screw in. Thanks for the response cod.I have an 2005 500 SB and they were screwed to the hull. Most likely the same. I had the rectangular scoop strainer installed which prevents any sea weed from entering.
Ok here is something I noticed. My salon floors have a slight aft slope. Although my table is level. So weird. I would think interior floor would be level. Then I noticed the same on my buddies 500 Sundance. His cockpit has an aft slope. His I get for water run off, but inside my salon? Anyone else notice.
New question: Have any of you installed animal guards in your exhaust ports? There have been two boats at our marina in the past couple of years that have had a muskrat climb thru the exhaust port and chewed thru the exhaust pipe looking for (I presume) a winter home. Both boats took on water and nearly went to the bottom. Hurley muskrat guards have been recommended. If any of you have installed these, what size did you get? Here's the link:

What? I believe you will find that exhaust hoses in the Sea Ray boats are all above the water line. So, unless you are running the engines / generator with a failed hose, water should not be entering the boat. Both boats took on water and nearly went to the bottom.

I hate to say, I'm glad I'm not alone....but It's funny how I did not notice during survey and then one day I just saw it. Amazing how excitement will override all the senses.Yes, the interior deck on our 480 has a noticeable aft slope.
Ranger Mike, Yes, when we purchased our boat, we had them installed. Our home port is in a area with a lot of muskrats and I thought it was good to have peace of mind. Not sure on the size, but I did go with the Hurley ones.New question: Have any of you installed animal guards in your exhaust ports? This is a typical DA / DB exhaust and specifically for the QSM-11. It's typical for above water exhaust with mufflers. Except for the entry into the hull which is hard fiberglass all of these components are above the waterline. The little buggers must have chewed through the fiberglass. All hull penetrations which have hose below the waterline have thru-hull valves. Those boats with underwater exhaust have a fiberglass riser above the hull penetration that connects the hoses above the waterline.Of the two boats at our marina that took on water because of muskrats chewing thru the exhaust hose, one was a Carver 53 and the other was a SR 500DA with QSM-11 engines.

I had my entire system from the muffler to the turbo replaced and did it in the water; nary a drip....I will be replacing both #6 (from the diagram) exhaust tubes in the next month or so. Plan is to do so in the water against some recommendations to pull the boat. I do expect to have some water remaining in those tubes but i believe it will be residual.
