480 DB Owners Club

I'm hoping to get on a similar sized bridge boat and bribe a captain for a short sea trial to observe (not operate) the difference. The cave thing is my motivator. Thanks for the responses so far everyone.

We are completely like the other on here. We went from a Rinker 330/342 to our 480DB. Like the others, we would never go back to an express now. If it were summer and you were in the northeast, i'd take you for a ride on ours. Maybe one of the other guys here would take you out. I know there are some in FL...

I have both a 380 Sundancer and a 480 Sedan. The 480 is much better for me in every respect. As others said no cave, more living and entertaining space. Cruising is much more stable in all conditions and you can't beat the view from the bridge both while underway and docking. Btw, my 480 is in Marco Island for sale as I'm considering a 540 CMY.

Floor removal help. Ok, need to remove the floor on the starboard side to access the aftercooler. I did a key word search and it was useless. Does anyone have any pictures and procedures to remove the floor. It looks like the bar needs to come out, but not sure how that is accessed. Once I figure I can guess on the floor itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Matt you'll most likely have to remove all cabinets on starboard side of salon . I had to remove the port side last spring , it's all screwed to the sides and too the floors , then once you get to the flooring you need help lifting it up , I just braced mine up with 2x4s in order to get at the lifter rods

Matt

You only need to remove the bar which is held in place by a few screws, and move it forward in the galley area. We did our aftercoolers last year.

I had my STBD panel out last winter. Not sure about your '99 but the only cabinet I had to remove was the sliding top cabinet (bar). There are lots of hidden fasteners to get it out.

Remove the polished trim strip at the slider, there are random screws all over and the carpet runner snaps holding the carpet down. Carefully fold the carpet and pad up toward the dinette stopping short of the wood floor transition strip.

In engine room - remove the foil tape and you will see the support tube mounting flange. I removed mine totally so the mechanic didn't get impaled but I guess you can just unscrew it from the engine room ceiling. There are about 8? 1/4" bolts connecting the two halves of the floor together. Remove them.

Back up in salon - remove screws holding the floor panel down and cut the caulk if it's still in place. It takes two people to remove the panels, they are heavy!

I'm not familiar with the '99 cabinetry but I know something is different than my '03 around the tv area.

Matt

Go to post 571 and there are pictures of the bar removed, just found them. Lady Taz donated them back then.

Thanks everyone. I am going to save this info and after our next trip start the process. I will take pictures along the way and upload them to the site for everyone.

I was in the bilge yesterday and the aft corners seemed really thin. Upon investigation. The corners where the rub rail meets the transom (first picture) has a plastic corner piece that sits between the rub rail terminate and the transom. Mine was loose. When I removed it, you see a massive hole. Talk about a potential water issue. I filled void with epoxy with silica, pressed plastic piece back in to seal area. I will finish with caulk. Hope this works or I am going to grind it all out.

Hi guys......just moved up from a 440 EB to a 2001 480 sedan.....love the layout and the ride even though I have only gotten it out for a few hours so far lol. I have a question for you guys....I wanted to change out all the exterior and interior lights to LED lights....pref ones that change color from red to blue to white. Has anyone done this before and know which lights would be a good fit. I started looking into it and am confused as heck.

I am pulling up my floors in about a month. I keep thinking about replacing carpet with hardwood/laminate floor. Has anybody done this with the 480 and how in the interior noise level compared to the carpet? Thanks for your thoughts.

Port Engine Hatch HELP

OK, I am writing the step by step procedure of how I am removing my engine hatches. When it's finished I will post it for all, BUT I have run into a snag. Has ANYBODY out there ever removed the port engine hatch. Or can someone answer this for me.

The small cabinet behind the sofa where I store my salon table. Right next to the salon slider. Does it have to be removed to get the port hatch out or will the hatch slide forward a few inches to clear it. IF that cabinet has to come out, It looks like a major task with probable damage to the finished counter-top.

I would think Sea Ray would have fabricated a way to remove the hatch without removing that cabinet. They did on the STBD hatch so to clear the cabinetry by the salon slider. (at least on the 99 model)

Any help would be thankful. Thanks Chris

I did mine last year and it has to come out , and there are about 6 screws holding that small cabinet .
Let me look to see if I have pics of that cabinet coming out.
Nope not one of my pics shows that small cabinet out , but if I remember , it sits right over the hatch by about 3" . Beware of hidden screws around the port back side of it .

I KNEW IT!!!!
Robert, I'm guessing, The screws are behind the breaker panel under the fly bridge stairs? And the screws at the other end of the curved counter-top that's behind the sofa are behind the vinyl covered wall panel. I'm guessing

OK I typed the above before your edit.
So the wall panel, Port side has to come out the access the screw heads to remove the curved end of the top.
Do you remember if the screws at the other end are found behind the 12v panel under the stairs?

No there's nothing inside the panel under the stairs . All the screws are inside the tall cabinet near the slider, and up under the lip towards the port corner , you'll find them don't sweat it.
