496 Upgrades

I recently bought a hold over 2008 290 Sundeck w/496 Mag. I added the Corsa to it (mainly to get the sound) and I am waiting for soft water to get it out. (I live in South Dakota) I have read that the difference between this motor and the 496 H.O is the cam and the ECU. My marine mechanic is suggesting that I could do some different manifolds (Eddie Marine brand) and get about the same performance improvement as the cam and ECU. If true, what could I expect in performance gains in terms of torque and mph? I know someone will suggest supercharging or a larger, more elaborate build but I am not going that route, at least not yet.:smt001 Thank you in advance.

If you go with a bigger cam and PCM you will also need to either drill out a hole on your throttle body plate or make the hole you have now bigger.

And if your going to go that route and gain so little, Then you at least owe it to your self to consider doing some home work on the net about Raylar marine, And then calling Ray to see what he has to say about his engine set up's he offers exclusively for the 496/8.1 engines.

Not sure about the cam and ecm as I am still comparing the manifold setup. I have done a lot of reading about Raylar but as I suggested originally, I am not ready to do that build, at least not yet. Thanks for your reply. Any thoughts about the manifold swap?
