My salt water 240SD has a water ingestion problem. Appears to be a pin hole above the exhaust valve on number 1 cylinder. The boat is a 2007 with +/- 600 hrs on it. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this ? Also, manifolds are partially plugged (replaced at +/- 200 hrs.)

Hi
I have just removed our 5.0 with water damage from unknown source, how did you find the hole? Ours is '94with 700 hours and no previous drama and it looks like no 1 is where it started.

We thought the port side exhaust manifold was bad, removed it and checked it with a garden hose, no water came out the exhaust ports. Mechanic looked inside the head exhaust port with a mirror and light and found little dark spot above the exhaust valve / figures it is a pin hole to waterjacket. Next step remove heads and check them both.

Have seen a few of those, the hole also appears just above the spark plug. Think its just a casting flaw.

Heads are off, and pushed a No2 Phillips screw driver right through the pin hole. Also waterjackets in both heads are plugged up with rust. Im quite sure this motor was never flushed for the first 300 hrs of its life. I doubt I would ever buy a salt water boat again.
