Hi, Thanks to all for the valuable info that I have received from this forum regarding my '07 310 . Today I was quoted $1000 per engine for supposedly Mercruiser's standard yearly service. Plugs, filters, don't know what else, etc....I was also quoted $600 for complete outdrive serice. Do these prices seem consistent with what others have paid.

How many hours?

Exactly what they are doing? Please be specific.

$1,000/engine for yearly (not impeller, spark plugs, wires, drive service etc) sounds high. We need to know what they are doing.

In another thread a member said they were being charged a lot for spring commissioning. Then when we asked for a detail list the boat owner was having the dealer wax the boat. I’m not against having someone wax the boat but for Pete’s sake, if you are bitching about the cost, do it yourself.

A 2007 310 Sundancer with 5.0's and BIII drives will have a lot of room in the engine room. Thats a DIY dream boat. If you get tired and need a break you will have room to set up a cot and take a nap.

My engine compartment is 2 feet shorter and 1 foot narrower than yours and we have the same engines and drives. My engine compartment has so little room I need to crawl out just to change my mind.

Sorry for not being specific, although I don't have the breakdown in front of me. The only thing I know is that it is a 200hr. service. Tomorrow I will have the specifics. Thanks for the quick response.

First off Please put your boat info in your signature it will help us help you.

200hr = 2yr service Mercruiser says service your engine every year or every 100 hrs whichever comes first.

Marine Max's 100hr 1yr service cost me $600 but I have 1 engine 1 out drive. So since you have twin's I would just double it (shouldn't be more then double)

Marine Max's 200hr 2yr service cost is about $1400 so double that for you, so based on your 1600 per engine/outdrive I would say it's a little high, but maybe there is more to servicing a boat with 2x engine/outdrive vs 1x engine/outdrive.

Seems very high

Would you say that if you found out the service included changing the impellers, plugs, dist. cap, plug wires and the traditional oil change, oil filter, fuel water separating filter?
Again, we need to know what is being done.

While troubleshooting two beeps and stolling at idle issue on my strbd engine I just purchased plugs, cap and rotor for my 5.7L MPI. Just those three components cost me $225.

BTW, where is the place to get breakdown like what needs to be done for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. years for service?

Spark Plugs, Oil, Lube, Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, IAC Muffler, Rotor, Distributor Cap, PCV Valvue (these are all th recomended things taht should be changed at 200hr/2yr) costs more then $400 just in parts, and if you got 2 engines make that more then $800 in just parts

Last year, winterization cost $800, with Spring commissioning costing $1000. That included 2 x (oil changes, winterization, spring tune ups (plugs and distributor), drive removal and storage, drive maintenance, zincs etc.). This notably does NOT include water system winterization and did not include drive impellers.

Previous years was the same for winterization, but spring commissioning was about $1500. . .when inlcuding both drive impellers, plus replacement of the upper seal in one of the drives (and I think installation of a new transducer)

I am using an independent mechanic who comes to my house.

Your prices sound consistent with what a dealer would charge. They will probably add shop fees, haulout, zincs, commissioning and seatrial charges to the bill at some point.
