This will be my first season getting the boat launched in the spring and was wondering how this all works out.

I live in Minnesota so the April 15th first launch date the marina where I have it slipped is optimistic but you never know. How long does it take to get your boat in the water once the weather is well enough to get it in? I assume the marina will try to start the boat before they remove from storage?

Just curious what to expect in the spring

Only if they want me to shoot them.

My boat has Bravo III drives. The impellers need to be in the water or they will be damaged.

You can connect a hose to a 'ear muff' device and run it out of the water.

44 Days till we launch.....

I could make a detailed list but basically
25 hours Wash / wax boat
15 hours wash clean cockpit / inside of boat, clean and treat canvas
10 hours various maintenance items. Includes treating the water tank, re-loading the boat, checking items like flairs, emergency supplies, etc.

What do you use to treat your canvas? I want to do some maintenance on mine this weekend and maybe cruise a bit if the showers are light. Hell maybe even wet a hook or two and see if I catch anything! I would like to treat the camper top even though I am in a covered slip for when I am out in rain or fog.

So it's not standard for them to start with the engines with a hose of course?

I love the response it gave me a good chuckle but I bet somewhere it has happened :smt043

I've only had a boat for three months then I had to winterize it and the winter has just been dragging on, I hope it gets better the longer I own one or I might have to move south...

4 hours drinking beer and BSing with all of your dockmates that you hadn't seen in 5 months... :smt038

Here is a photo of the ear muff device that you can attach to a hose, put the muff over the intake holes in the drive and turn on the water then safely start the boat out of water.

It’s not standard to use this before they put the boat in the water. At least it’s not standard around here.

After they put the boat in the water, still in the slings of the travelift they do start the boat, open the engine compartment and inspect for issues, water, anything that does not look right.

Then I hop on the boat and drive it to my slip.

Most people have them launch the boat when they are not around and have them put the boat in the slip. I just have never done it that way.

Thanks for the reply,

The slip I'm at is a distance from where there main launch is at and last night I had thoughts of it not starting.

Probably going to purchase some new batteries since I don't know when they were replaced by the previous owner.

I'm getting pretty excited getting below two months until possible launch

I see that your avatar says you have a Maxum 230, you do realize this is a Sea Ray owners website??? lol

Anyways, welcome to the site, Maxums are very nice boats. I have a buddy that has a Maxum 190 and it the quality is real similar to that of my Sea Ray. I live just south of you in Iowa... Okoboji area actually, decent size lake here!! There is a lot of knowledgable guys on here that make posts. I do a lot of reading, but occassionlally I do make a post every now and again.

We love the Maxum good little boat but we are looking to upgrade this spring looking at 1999-2003 28' Sea Ray Sundancers. Being on a boat for three days plus a toliet is my new need :)
