Hey guys, a friend of mine has a 2003 320 that we’re having an issue with starting.

Starboard engine starts and runs fine.

Port engine cranks, fuel pump is pumping, doesn’t fire but when you let off the start switch it sounds like it wants to fire for a brief second. The day before it started without issue.

We have swapped IAC’s to see if that was the issue but there was no difference.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I consistently had the same problem with my 2003 6.2 in my Meridian years ago and it was the cap that was cross firing. I always had a spare cap on board and it would start and run fine for a while and then wouldn’t…I always thought it was the wet environment that cap didn’t like. It didn’t make sense but it always worked. Worth a try. It always worked for me…it’s very frustrating! Good luck

Wanting to fire when you let off the start switch may be a hint that the coil voltage is too low during crank.

Air, fuel and spark. Has spark been verified?
If the fuel and spark I would check the ECT sensor.
