Recently purchased my first boat a 1985 Sundancer 260. My first question is how's come you don't hear too much about the 80s 260? It seems all you hear about are the 250 or 268. I have been able to find lots of complaints about the older Sundancer seating but very few Solutions I agree with the complaints the helm seat is very uncomfortable not to mention the adjuster arm is an shin bruiser. My particular boat already had the jump seats eliminated which don't matter much to me, by looking at photos of them I don't think they would be able to get used much because they don't look like they would support most adults anyhow but that leaves only the transom bench seat which is uncomfortable and very unattractive has anybody came up with any solutions to the 80s Sundancer seating woes?

Greetings

My 1981 260 Sundancer had only the two chrome brackets to support what used to be the transom seat. As a hot rodder and sprint car crew chief I paid little thought to what type seat may have been there, I was far more concerned about engine access. I could not believe that the big hunk of 1/2" plywood on the floor was a factory deal but it was. As a newbie I had that damn sheet of plywood propped up against the starboard rail and was intent on some engine bay project when a gust of wind blew the plywood onto my head. Working on a boat will teach you many new curse words. I sectioned the plywood sheet into three parts so that they could be connected via piano hinges. Two panels fold up against the port rail and one up against the starboard rail. Bungee cords provide assurance the wind will not get me again.

All of that said, let me address the rear bench seat replacement. My design criteria was that the bench be teak and that it fold up easily to afford quick and easy access to the engine compartment and stop short of blocking the stern swim deck access. The bench does not have to be removed for any reason as it folds up allowing the engine access panels to fold up. The bench has no upholstery save the 3 throwable PFD's that serve as cushions. This has saved me an incredible amount of time and frustration working on my old boat. I am quite happy with the helm two piece bench seat with storage under as well as the two fold down aft facing seats behind the helm seat.

Hope this helps.

Hello! I have the same frustration...did you come up with a solution?
