Twin 260 alpha drives
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but figured I would get a bigger response here. So, my question is this: I have a 1985 sundancer 300 with stock aluminum 14x19 propellers. The boat is a dog out of the hole, I always have to use tabs to plane off. I have read on here that some have switched to a stainless steel mercruiser mirage prop 15 1/2 x 17. I looking for input as whether to try these props. I have twin 260’s alpha one drives. Any and all input would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I had an '89 300DA with that power. I purchased the boat with 19" pitch props. I'm not sure what diameter those were. I couldn't get anywhere near the max rpm at WOT with the 19" pitch props so tried a couple others and settled on 14 1/2 x 17" Black Diamond aluminum as a better choice. Those allowed me to get to somewhere around 4200 rpm as I recall (I don't own that boat now). I always used the tabs getting on plane. It was just easier and required much less throttle. My question for you would be what kind of WOT rpm are you getting? If your numbers are at spec, then what you propose might be OK. With the material and diameter change and 2" pitch decrease, the rpm effect would be a wash and you'd gain the advantage of a blade that didn't deflect as much.

I put the 15 1/2 x 17 stainless props on my old boat (87 300 Sundancer) and the change in the hole shot was night and day. That boat jumped out of the water with those props but was an absolute dog with the 14x19 aluminum props.
Google PropMD. They were the ones that recommended the change and they had great prices on the stainless props.

I am looking at switching from the 14.5x19 aluminums, what model stainless prop did you go with?
It was a number of years ago and I got them from PropMD (google them), but at the time the model I went with was Michigan Wheel XHS Apollo 3 Blade Stainless Steel 15 1/2 x 17.
