Need to buy a new strainer for my AC cooler line before I go down this weekend.
Anyone know the size? I think it's a 4 or 5? (based on West Marine- 3.5 inch with 1/2 inch 3/4 inch fittings respectively?).

Thanks,

Sea Ray uses 3/4" strainers on A/C cooling.

You need strainer basket # 0493-005-99D and you should go ahead and replace the lid gasket with a rubber one while you are at it. It is part # 0493-DP5-99R. If you want to replace all the gaskets while you are ordering parts, the main engines use 1 1/4" strainers and the gasket # is 0493-DP7-99R.

I am curious, how does a strainer go bad?

Their parents don't pay enough attention to them when they are young.....sorry...I couldn't resist...

I would guess too agressive cleaning with a sharp tool would do it....or you just lose it to Davey Jones...

No....not setting the thermostat very low when using chlorine tablets in the basket to avoid marine growth in the lines. The bottom of the basket is plastic and it does not enjoy the presence of concentrated chlorine when the unit is not running.

And, the handles are just spot-welded to the basket and they will break especially if you do not flatten the handle a little when you first install them. The new strainer basket is slightly too tall to fit in the strainer body......normal use will usually flatten the handle, but sometimes they flex and break.

Finally, the most common cause for needing a replacement basket is when you lose them off the dock when you drop them while you are cleaning with a hose.

Haven't been that careless (yet) to drop it overboard-

Mine actually has a cracked section, and I want to make sure that it doesn't worsen whereby passing any crud through.

Thanks folks-

-Al
