I plugged a heater in the cabin GFI outlet above the fridge. (Same as every year) When I got back to the boat the GFI outlet would not reset. Not even click. The cover even look a bit burned. I replaced the outlet with a new GFI but the same thing is happening. There is a green light on the new outlet but the reset button will not even click on. There are two other non-GFI outlets I'm aware of on the boat and none of them are working. The electrical panel is showing on. The battery charger and hot water heater are working. The switch on the panel for the outlets is combined with the refrigerator. The refrigerator's AC is working. Any ideas on what to do next?

Usually When a GFI won't reset there's no power at the outlet, Get a voltage tester and see if your getting 110 volts at the back of the outlet first...

Adding to Express 390 - then work your way backwards. Those GFIs are all on the same breaker. If none have power, check the circuit breaker power in the panel. Sounds like it may have gotten fried by the heater. Those systems can ONLY handle a 15 amp draw. The heater is probably at least that. If it looks scorched, it was overloaded and you were close to having a fire. Also - your fridge should be on its own breaker.

Check the wiring ( white and Black on outlet ) as the new outlet have a lock out on them were they will show power but will not work or trip.
Get a tester and make sure the black is the wire with power.

Thanks, There is power to the back of the outlet but not the front. I replaced the GFI again just in case the other one was faulty. The fridge and the outlets on the panel are on the same switch so I assume they are on the same breaker.

Thanks, the fridge and outlets are on the same switch in the panel. I can turn the fridge on and off with the switch. There is power to the back of the GFI but not the front. The hot wires are hooked up to the load side of the new GFI I'm so confused.

This is the panel. I am getting power to the GFI outlet which I assume is the first in the circuit. The fridge is turning on and off with the switch. Can the wire between the panel and the GFI be fried enough to set off a GFI but still show as a hot 110?

check the neutral wire, losing that will cause it not to reset.

You probably crossed a wire when you installed new GFI I would think. Good luck ! And keep us posted...

The outlet is not wired right, on a G.F.I. outlet the power ( Hot wires ) have to go to the LINE SIDE of the G.F.I. outlet.
The outlet will not work with power wired to the load side of the G.F.I outlet.
Load side of a G.F.I. outlet is for the other outlets after the G.F.I. outlet in the line, So you only need one G.F.I. outlet and they are all cover by G.F.I. protection
New code built in lock out if not wired right or faulty circuit.
As i stated above CHECK WIRING
