I still can't believe it. We went out on the boat yesterday and the temperature is still 96 degrees. By the way that's not air temperature........... that's water temperature in Lake Wylie.:wow: The actual air temperature was maybe 90 degrees. We found a "comfortable" 89 degree area for swimmng.

This is our sixth year boating at Lakw Wylie and this is the warmest I can ever remember the water being at this time of the year. Several things are conspiring to make this phenomonen occur. Lake levels are way down because we are in the midst of a major drought. And we have had nothing but sunshine and warm (hot) weather now for almost two months. Another thing that is occurring is there are very few boaters on the lake anymore. With many of the public loading ramps closed and with difficulties getting out of Marinas, it seems everyone is just staying away. We were out for 6 hours yesterday and saw exactly four boats. The same thing occurs on the weekends...........no boat traffic at all to speak of. We are fortunate that we can just make it out of our Marina because of the low water. There is one section on the way out of the Marina where I have to raise the outdrive almost up to the trailer position and then just bump it into a gear for a moment and let it coast. I have to repeat this several times until I clear this area.

The bad news is no rain in sight yet.

Dave,

I am still surpirsed you are going out in that mess. I read in the paper that the dealers were getting alot of extra service work (and insurance company getting claims) from people hitting stuff with the lake levels so low. Keep safe out there. We are still waiting on the rain.

There is no reason not to go out Wesley. Put in at the location I mentioned to you earlier. There are no problems as long as you stay out of shallow coves you are not familiar with. You will be waiting until Spring at this rate if you don't go out until the lake regains it's normal levels.:smt021

Hey Wesley, at least they have not put any salt in the water yet. Dave what is the normal summer water temps. That 96 sure sounds good to me.

Chuck

The water been very hot this summer due to all the hot weather. Normal summer water temps average from 85-90 during June thru August. 70's are not uncommom in early November.

Chuck, when Wesley goes to sell his boat someone is going to get a great deal. Not only can he say it hasn't seen salt water, he can also say it's been stored in the garage all summer long. Wesley..........I sure hope you put Stabil in the gas. I bet the last time you filled up was in February.:smt043

That is the good thing about South Coastal Georgia, the water level goes down and it comes up, when it is too low for me to get in the little creek I live on I just wait a little while and the level comes up. My water may be brown and salty but I can boat year round. I am real glad I don't live on one of those lakes and the guy that let his boat sit until it had no water under it should be horse whipped, he could have backed it up and kept it floating, set anchors, long rope back to the dock and a ladder to get on board with.

still warm here (austin).

looks like we will have several good weeks left if not the remained of Oct.

WOW, that water temp is HOT!!! I think little ol Lake Lure never broke the high 80's this year. Must be something with springs and depth.?.? Though it still feels good to jump in as it is very refreshing. This morning with low temps in the high 40's, there was alot of fog rolling off the water. I can imagine it will start cooling in a hurry with these cold nights ahead.
