A boat and a JetSki?

I have a boat, son has jet skis. I haul everyone over to the beach, he drags them around on tubes, while I drink a cold beer.
Perfect arrangement. I think I have only been on his ski 1 time, just does not interest me that much, I guess I am old

I sold my CC, that never got used, and bought a Jet boat for the back creek use. We like it during the week and use it sometimes to go to lunch on Thursday/Fridays, then to the big boat for the week end. That's about it though. Just driving around going fast isn't thrilling at this point. I'd rather take the Sea Ray out and just hang on it. Dog like both though, so we go to lunch sometimes still. He like's hi basket of french fries a lot.

We had a SeaDoo when we had our lake house -- 2006 GTI SE -- it was a blast. We put a couple hundred hours on it over 5yrs and had zero problems with it. It was a 4 stroke 130hp naturally aspirated (no supercharger). It would still run in the mid 50's.

I had a 2015 SeaHunt 234,05 FXcruiser, a ‘15 Superjet, an ‘87, ‘88 and ‘91 650sx, and an 85-6-7 js550/650 frankenski when I bought my dancer.

Aside from the ‘15 superjet I don’t miss any of them!

When the boys were little we often rented 'skis on vacation. When my son came of age, he bought a SeaDoo 2-stroke. He let us try it and we were sold. Then we bought a 4-stroke and have had 2 other new ones since. We currently own a Yamaha FX-SHO Cruiser than will do over 60.

So, a boat owner for 56 years, and jeskiers for for 30 years. People laugh at us when they see a couple of 75 year old farts jumping waves.

Learned a lot over the years. A 4-stroke is the ONLY way to go, and Yamaha beats out all other brands. Of course, install a shutoff valve in the water inlet line if you need to tow.

Jet skis are badass. If your back's okay and jet skis are awesome You can go out and 5 6 ft sea and just have a blast You don't have to jump or nothing but you can ride in between the waves just pop over the waves Its a blast

My story…. Had 4 kids in high school (twins)…. Begged for jet skis… bought two new Seadoos put them at the YC walking distance from the house. First year ran them like crazy…. 2nd year I said guys I don’t see anyone using the jet skis…. 3rd year I have them at home winterizing them… filters oil all that stuff…. Then check the hour meters one had an hour on it the other didn’t flip an hour. They were sold by Christmas….. some poor guy was giving them to his kids for Christmas….. sucker

My son now in college with a landscaping business and a bit of money said he was buying his own. I said no problem. You pay for it, dockage, ins, mtce and winter storage…. He sold it the second year

Point is after a while been there done that…. They just don’t hold a kids attention

5-6' sea in a wave runner, really? That's just plain suicide, not to mention very dangerous.

I’ve done it on a standup. Probably a major part of the reason I can’t do it anymore.

Yeah, I bought my kids a Sea Doo 155 Wake in 2014. They used it a ton for a couple years. We put an hour on it last year and that was mostly me taking it to get gas. If we were still paying $1k/year to store it, it would have been sold. But we bought a garage with our new condo last year and the ski lives there. If they don't put more than 5 hours on it this summer it will be sold. I like to ride it, but it is just a PITA to store and get back and forth from wherever we anchor out.

So in close to the beach I could see, I don't see 5-6' waves in a storm being ridable.

I have had jet skii's and wave runners my whole life, just sold my last one last year. I use to go down the beach with one and my board and switch back and forth between the two and have a great day with them. Now that I am old, that's not happening anymore. Much rather sit on the back of the boat with a cigar and adult beverage with the dog swimming around and bbq'ing.

Sounds like I’m on the same trajectory, just a smaller boat

Jetski

I have both and enjoy them equally. Very different feel and ride with only the water in common. I rarely use mine along with the boat, it's usually one or the other. I trailer both boat and jetskis.

I'd compare it to having a motorcycle and a car. Different machines altogether.

I'd definately stick with a 3-seater unless you've already spent a bunch of time on a 2-seater and liked it. My 3-seater can't jump and do tricks like a 2-seater but it's so much more comfortable and I don't get wet when I don't want to.

Maintenance as mentioned is certainly a drawback. That machine with 35 hours sounds like it's hardly been used, I'd definately have it checked out. With that amount of hours I'm sure the carburator(s) will need some attention. A full carb rebuild kit is roughly $40 per carb + a couple hours labor.

A survey saved my a$$ last year from buying a lemon that "ran great the year before". I fix my own stuff but if you're handy or can afford not to be it's a non-issue. They all break and they all need to be maintained. Especially in the hands of the younger crowd ... they know two speeds, no throttle and full throttle.

Good luck! They're alot of fun.

Look at haul over inlet there having fun!!!!??

It's actually a ton of fun, but you have to know how to ride in those conditions.

The trick (to save your back from the bone jarring) is to clear clean air and land stern-first. You have to time it out and know how to manipulate the sled at the wave crests, but you'd be surpised how soft you can land it from a 7-10 foot drop if you practice at it.

Here is my daughter and I last year. We landed well, but I lost her at a turn and also went in shortly afterwards...

Get back on, rinse, and repeat.

Yep, know how to ride them, use to race dirt bikes etc.

My point being, in real 5-6' storm conditions is not safe no matter if you know how to ride or not.

Ridding in an inlet, besides just getting through, is just stupid. If I am going through and jet skis are jumping waves etc. Well you get my point.

Different strokes for different folks. Some people try different things, find out it's boring and sell it.

We take out the family boat as often as possible. If its a nice warm evening we take a sammich and go out in the 'ski and eat dinner on the sandbar. Holiday weekends (when all the idiots are on the water) we spend time with the family at our mountain cabin. Even if it rains half the summer and I only ski twice there is no way I will sell it, as long as my health allows me to ride.

One relative spends all free time at the casino......boring.

Another raises puppy dogs and walking / picking poo 5 times a day......boring.

My son moved to TN. As I was looking out the window this February watching the snowplow drive by, he sent me a pic of him and wife on their jetski enjoying the sun (po'd me off.....LOL)
