I'm at work now, Sat Evening, but since no one else is posting, I'll tell you about my day at the beach. I got a call from a great friend Thursday, and he wanted to get to the beach by 10:00 Fri. I agreed. Both of our wives would still be at work, but hey, someone's got to use the boats.
I pulled in at 10:00 and he helped me anchor. We caught up on boats, toys, events, while having a couple of beers. A few hours later his wife showed up in their new "dinghy." It's a 13' twin-jet boat (jet-ski engines). The three of us jumped in that thing and raced across the bay to Bayou Joe's for burgers and fish samiches. Then, we raced back across the bay back to the boats.
Frank W showed up with his family - nice people. We talked boats. My wife called and was ready for pickup, so I raced across the bay the other way to pick her up at the dock. Everyone at the yacht club was staring at this new (used) toy. I zipped her back to the island (round trip - 8 minutes). We enjoyed good company, cooked some dinner, listened to good tunes, then watched a movie and went to sleep.
I woke up a couple of times during the night. The winds had shifted from the standard off shore (behind the barrier island) to strong, NE onshore winds. I let the stern lines out quite a bit and took up at least 10 feet of bow line, then went back to sleep. The second time I woke up, I shut the gen down and opened up the hatch - It was perfect.
This morning, we got up and everything was fine with us, but our neighbors were hard aground at the stern and 1/2 way along one side - the winds combined with the out-going tide caught them off guard. My wife and I went for a walk. We collected 2 full trash bags of trash in about a 45 minute walk (our standard routine). Then we had breakfast in the sun/wind. The butter flies were so thick we had to fight them for our food. Once they saw the fruit, they wouldn't give up.
Next, I kite-surfed on the bay side due to the North winds for a couple of hours. Frank W and family were back. There were several boats showing up which surprised me due to the heavy winds. Then back to the dock and off to work. It was really a great day and a half!
