Seeing that a lot of the marinas are full. How many of these slips are new boaters? And how many have had safe boater course's? It is going to be a interesting boating season to say the least. Looking at some of the posts on this site already of new boaters makes one wonder.

I see a difference.

Where I boat is a constant shit show of drunken boaters who try to take over the area on weekends. We have a nice anchorage in a bay that the idiots drive through kicking up 2 foot wakes and threading between boats where people are in the water.

In the past year it's gotten worse.

I dont mind the rooks.... but wake issues are getting worse even with experienced boaters
we love this place on the river in ft Myers called the boathouse its loaded with boats and sits on a drawbridge that folks stay on plane blowing by people following decent rules... seems like bay boats. center console guys for the most part...we dont or cant afford to go there anymore...

That's why we are cruising to a nice Yacht Club to spend the weekend in a private secluded marina instead of anchoring in the delta. We will be seeing the first triple digits in temps in the Delta but forecasted highs through Monday in the North Bay will be in the 80s. More comfortable temps and fewer idiots to deal with made the choice very simple. Be safe everyone!

Having lived on Spring Lake for 45 years I can attest to the lack of concern with wakes. The Ottawa County Sheriff has been completely ineffective in dealing with the problem. We used to allow the Sheriff to hang out in our guest slip to conduct enforcement. The violations were numerous and instead of tickets, he issued warnings and called them “education stops”. Problem is you can’t fix stupid. It may be getting worse, but in my first hand experience it was always bad.

I have more issues with jetski'ers than boaters most of the time.

I just hope around Chattanooga they are patrolling the waters a little more this year then last.

I hate to see over loaded boats and kids w/o lifejackets.

We were all newbs once. but, Sunday we were coming up the river. And a new maroon hull 21 Crownline (ya YOU if you reading this) off in distance plowing in no wake zone coming straight at us. And getting closer and closer dead at us, and keeps coming, so i peel off to port, hug right along the channel to avoid him without hitting bottom and this guy flips me the bird as he passes 10’ to starboard. This is why they dont allow torpedoes on boats anymore.

That looks like a great memory! Hey, you never know -- with the current exodus from California, there's a chance he just might move back to the East coast.

We were all new for awhile there, but I never did some of the dumb moves I’ve seen lately. From the smallest kayakers to some bigger boats.

Boats are not like you car or bike, we don’t have brakes and just because you think you have the right of way doesn’t make it so!

Just a few minutes ago, I was riding around with my son and we see some jet skiers in the water with their jet ski about 100yrds from them. Winds are about 15knots and blowing in the same direction as the current. I’m trying to get the two into my boat and this 35ish foot center console goes by. Music blaring and making a 3-4’ wake. Thanks jackass.

A jet-ski rental business just opened up this year in Pittsburgh. Gonna be a nightmare for the regulars down there. The whole area around The Point is no wake and boats are anchored everywhere on nice days. I can just see a jet-ski plowing into one of those boats

Don't know if new boater, but figured this is as good a place as any to post.
Happened at the mouth of my river Thursday at 7:30pm. Picture looks like twilight, but 7 is total daylight, sunset at 8:30pm. Don't know details.

MIDDLE RIVER, MD—A Thursday evening boating accident in Bowleys Quarters has left two people injured.
The Baltimore County Fire Department says units arrived on the scene at around 7:30 p.m. after a boat collided with a buoy on the Middle River.
Scuba teams rescued a male & female victim who were already in the water.
Both victims were transported to Shock Trauma.
There has been no further update on their condition.

Red right return. I guess this was green gas go. Glad they’re okay.

I've been a boater for 65 years. Took the course 3 times (twice with my kids). I hated jetskis until I tried one. Now we have owned one for 30 years and ply the waters as much as we can.

Buttttt, we are cruisers not wake jumpers.

The local 'ski rental place has been a source of problems. Then, 2 years ago he rented one to a dumb*** and he hit a cruiser and killed himself. Now the rental shop is gone, and I even saw that the rental guy sold his house. I imagine his insurance didn't cover it all.

Now we are retired and loving it. We can go boating during the week and abvoid all the untrained newbies.

Just spent yesterday on Lake Wylie anchored out last night. Was surprisingly very quite for a holiday.
But there are a lot of PWCs about. Most have been nice. But we also have a new PWC rental business.

Just this week the local YouTube ramp watchers caught four being launched. The blast out of the ramp area (a well marked no wake zone) Few hours later two are towed back one sinking one nose crushed. Rider not with it.

They got the scoop from local EMS
Slammed into boat lift piling rider in hospital, they went and filmed the lift.

These rentals will not last but what will be the cost
