Background - last week I started a thred on the difficulty of raising the manual engine hatch on our 2002 280 DA. The response lead to the conclusion that the difficulty we have raisnig our engine hatch is more the rule than the exception. As far as we can tell a power lift was not avaialable in 2002, altough the port side dash panel contains an up and down engine hatch switch. The switch is clearly wired to something as a relay click can be heard when the switch is depressed.

After reviewing the wiring diagrams it is clear that the dash wiring is somewhat complicated in the use of the EIM modules. So the questons are:

Does anyone know how to access the the various unused switches that go through the EIM? I would assume that for many things (unused options) the wires are already in the harness, as having one harness for all production is cheaper than having several different ones.

thanks

Henry

check your plug on EIM and you will find few wires what are terminated in about 6-10 inches from plug
once you find them use voltmeter if this is right wire/switch combination
I would recommend additional relay to operate hatch lift because relay inside EIM may be not "strong" enough
