Adding a War Water Shut-off Valve

I am sick of having to haul my boat every time I have to do anything to the engine (I currently need a new water circulating pump, but can't do this with the boat in the water). It is a RWC 350 Mag MPI, so if I remove a water hose, I flood the boat. There is currently no way to shut-off the flow of water to the engine.

I'd like to install a ball valve just before the raw water pump to fix this problem. I want to get a nice brass one, install 2 nipples on the end that can accommodate hose connections, and install it just before the raw water pump. Anyone think this won't be as easy as it sounds??

Oh, and the subject should be RAW water...not WAR water. Dyslexic I think am I.

sounds like something I want to do on our boat so that I can flush the engine while in the water. If you do it I would appreciate pictures. I'm not mechanically inclined and couldn't even point out what my raw water pump looks like

Why can't you flush the engine with it in the water? I do it all the time.

Cause I'm not a scuba diver and don't want to dive under the boat to put the muff's on the outdrive.

Oh. Perko does make an onboard flush kit. I can also get to my intakes while lying on the swim platform if I trim the motor up all the way.

Sorry didn't mean to highjack your thread but there are 2 very long threads about flushing the BIII while in the water. I can't reach mine (wonder why) and the Perko thing is plastic.

Like you I want to install 3 valves in the raw water line before the raw water pump so I can hook up a host to it from inside the boat.

Just bumping this to see if there are any opinions on this project..."war" water issue aside... All I'm looking to do is add a brass ball valve before the raw water pump so I can shut the water off to the engine. Doable??
