As our Supreme Court has ruled against Affirmative Action in school admissions do you think I can go back in my career as a Firefighter and seek the damages done by this stupid program? My first real job was denied to me by affirmative action as Newport News FD couldn’t hire me due to the numbers they needed! I wasn’t black or female. Made it all the way through the many layered interviews, was number two on the list for ten openings. Had a degree in Fire Science and hydraulics and even had four years of n the floor training. Still I was passed over due to my race and sex.
 
I worked with a guy in the '80s that lost out on making it to the NFL because of it. Strongest guy I was ever near and really angry about the pass-over.

Nope, you cannot get arrested for doing something that was legal at the time of the crime cause it wasnt a crime. Neither can you get recompense for something that wasnt illegal at the time. Someone really needs to tell the idiots that want to give money to blacks that never were affected by slavery but now want cash. It doesnt work that way.

No, I did my time on the floor. Loved most of it. If I’m out on the water I try to be of assistance. Many of my brothers were passed over for less qualified females. That whole program is and was discriminatory.

8 years ago......polls showed that blacks in the US felt that racism had significantly declined over time. The democratic party stinging from a Trump victory lit the fires of racism again by promising million dollar reparations, free housing, food and anything else they can think of. They pushed the corrupt Black Lives Matter, cashless bail and you can steal anything you want up to $1,000 a day. Car jackers are not prosecuted and you can live in somebody else's house for free and not get evicted.

Affirmative Action was bad law because putting your finger on the scale to favor one race over another is by definition: racist.

Further.....this case was about tipping the scales. Since AA became law, Indian, Asian and Latin immigration has skyrocketed....and they are minorities. Every group that immigrated to the US during the last 60 years has found a way to be successful. Yet, it is the same old story. While the law is meant to advance minorities......that is not the way it was implemented.

It’s not… not at all …it’s all race baiting by the left….. if they don’t divide us they don’t win elections
 
At my last company, when HR posted a job opening for me, I would see some amazing resumes. However, I could not talk to them until our diversity/affirmative action quota was met. There had to be a certain percent of Asian applicants, Black applicants, etc. In some cases I never even got the chance to interview qualified candidates.

THIS is spot on. Seeing all of the destruction first hand in my hometown of Richmond, VA and speaking with friends who are police offers, some close to retirement who want nothing more than to quit.

Woody, that’s a good question. If I’m white (I am) and had much better qualifications ( two degrees and five years working on the floor) and job was given to a black or female with little or no qualifications (numbers for Affirmative Action) wasn’t I discriminated against? But if I was black or a female I was discriminated against.

That was the problem with the AA body of law. If you are in the majority (being white) it is impossible for anyone to discriminate against you based on race. That was how the law was to be interpreted. The key aspect of the law was that it was okay to legally discriminate against white people if it meant meeting minority targets. That is wrong and it only took 60 years for people to figure it out.

What is disingenuous about AA is that millions of minorities have come to the US and been successful by having a hard work ethic and they were proud not to take handouts. In particular millions came from India and their skin color is brown. Every single group of immigrants has passed the legacy groups of black Americans and American Indians by on their way to success and prosperity.

Until people are willing to have the discussion as to why this continues to be the case despite 60 years of AA and untold entitlement programs ......nothing will change.

For certain....politicians and activists will continue to make race an issue every election cycle for at least the next 100 years.

But my question still stands ( on very thin sticks ) If folks can go back and get restitution for something that WAS legal then. Can I go back and seek restitution for my losses for the numbers game as well?

Id take .50 just to say I was discriminated against as we’re MANY others

Actually I live in N. WI. I don't pay no attention to all this stuff, just concentrate on cuttin' firewood and drinkin' beer.:)
