Good morning - In the floor of the aft cabin of my 2000 340, there is a small ( aprox. 12"X12") compartment with a bilge pump accessible by lifting a carpet covered hatch. Occasionally water accumulates in there which has sort of a petroleum based odor. Was wondering where this water would be coming from. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's your shower/sink pump. Water goes there, then gets pumped out. It's an enclosed box so you you don't get bad odors coming up into the cabin. Funny thing is, a lot of manufacturers just let that soapy/dirty water dump right into the bilge.

Actually, it is aft of that. That compartment you are talking about is fine and dry. The compartment I'm referring to is immediately forward of the seating in the aft cabin.

look for leaking portholes or leak around floor drain in head

Just a thought, something to check .......... inside the head, under the door frame, check for voids in caulk. Can easily see if your on the outside looking upside-down inside (on your knees).
