Boat Info
2005 260 Sundancer. 2003 F250 Super Duty V10 Ford Tow. 5.0 KW Kohler genset. Old school Naman GPS.
Engines
350 MAG MPI, Bravo 2 drive.
For anyone out there that is considering a 05 or younger 260 Sundancer and have heard the stories of the leaning or listing problem of this boat, the listing problem correction suggested by Dave S. is CORRECT!! (Not that I doubted you Dave, finally got to test it out).
While Sea trialing a 06 260 Sundancer, the demo guy was attempting to bring the boat on plane WITH trim tabs deployed and down to the right we went. He seemed embarrassed and confused at the same time and immediately powered off. I asked him if he would allow me to drive the boat at that time (I was planning on driving it anyway, but opportunity knocked at that point). I asked him if he had driven the 05 -08 Dancers yet and he indignantly replied "yes." So, I began the Dave S. prep routine, tabs up, outdrive down. I began to power up on the throttle and slowly bring the drive up as the boat began to plane and WAA - LA!! Up on plane, no list, complete control. I took hard turns, wide turns, I had my wife and demo guy move around the boat AND IT NEVER LISTED TO ANY SIDE ONCE!!
We were in 15-18 winds, moderate chop in the Charleston Harbor with the side curtins up. The winds were cross, aft and foreward as we were in the harbor and it's a "wind whipping harbour" when it wants to be. Could feel the boat "swaying", but never went bow down into the water. I never used trim tabs. The boat held steady and true at all times.
So the moral of the story is, yes the 05-08 Sundancer is quirky, bit if you apply the ideas Dave S. and the others talk about in the 260 Sundancer thread your going to be ALL RIGHT.
We are close to getting this boat and soon I will be able to post my boats photo on this web page and FINALLY be a real member!!!
Thanks to all on this site.
P.S. We bought an 03 F250 V10 gas truck to tow. The boat is only going to go like 12 miles round trip for launch and storage so not too worried about the gas VS diesel thing.
If there is anyone out there doing research on this boat, feel free to email me and I will be happy to share everything I have learned about getting into this boat.
