Air conditioner raw water pump

The pump that cools the air conditioner with raw water runs all the time i use the air conditioner, I thought it only kicked in when the compressor kicked in am I wrong is it supposed to run all the time? 92 Sundancer 270

It would only be needed to cool the evaporator coil when the compressor is running. Every boat I've had cycles the pump on and off with the compressor.

Yep. mine only runs when the AC compressor kicks on but with the heat we have had and it set at 65* it runs pretty much non stop right now

Well I read one time that it kicks out when the compressor kicks off but when I got this boat it didn't have pump in it so I had to buy one and install it the wire was right there for it I guess somebody hooked the wire up wrong, thanks for the reply guys,

I believe if it is functioning correctly it will come on just before the compressor kicks on and run a little after the compressor goes off to complete cooling.

I never checked this it just seems to be the way it works. With two compressors and one pump runs a lot in the summer

My '94 370 EC, which I have now sold, had a setting you could change on the control panel to change that. You could set it to run constantly, or only when the compressor runs. Likewise, you could set the fan to run constantly or only when the compressor was on. It was Marine Air unit, but the Cruisair unit in the cockpit had the same capability. You have to step through the setup codes on the control panel. Check your manual. Hope this help.

Boats don't have manuals like cars so if you are looking for that, it does not exist. But here is what is there on Sea Rays site. Its a parts manual:

You can download the manuals for your various things from their respective manufacturer's web sites. Most marine companies have the old manuals on line still, but you may need a model number. CruiseAir/Dometic has their manuals on line.
