AirBus A380

Hey Alex,

Was in your beautiful home town last week - global warming is killing them there too - the lake is frozen over for the first time in 15 years!

Scott's correct - UPS and FedEx ordered the freighter version, which was cancelled (or maybe delayed for a loooong time) by both.

I'm going to have to change my signature picture - it's making me sick to look at it with the snow on the ground outside (I finally have "connected" with you "Yankee" boaters ;-). And I'm sick too thinking about Alex and the other's with collapsed marina roofs.

Yeah, my folks are telling me too its the harshest winter in some time, but still nothing compared to the winter of 1979 ...
I was in London and Paris the last two weeks of Jan. Luckily they had a break in the snow and cold temps. I actually did not see any snow at that time. And I rode the Eurostar from London to Paris ... and it actually worked!! :smt038

Hey pilots no comments on the landing??? Come on just like dockside boat captains when it comes to docking!

OK, he landed long and firm and spilled the drinks in row 3.

:smt043

And I'm sure theres an inside pilot joke there too...

Just think commercial airliners are cool and love watching the landings and takeoff's. I sometimes think of driving the boat like flying an airplane-Ya now flame me! (And yes I know there is NOTHING in common)

With Global warming you will be looking like us pretty soon:smt043

What do all you pilots think of the major airlines relying more and more on the regional airlines? As a passenager, I can't stand them for the following reasons:

1 - most pilots look no older than 25. I actually do worry about my safety on these planes. Every bad flying experience I ever had (near miss, hover just above the runway before actually landing or right after take-off, just hover above runway) has been on a regional
2 - to point 1, almost every major accident in the last 5-6yrs has involved a regional
3 - cramped quarters and I'm not a big guy
4 - waiting on the jet way to get my luggage as there are no overhead bins big enough for "carry-on"
5 - seems those planes are the first ones to get delayed or cancelled

I'm with you on all counts!

But you are wrong. There is more in common than you think. Neither is connected to terra firma, thus subject to currents and wind, and both require managing your momentum. Both require skill, and can humble you in a heart beat. No, there is a lot in common with piloting a boat and a aircraft, although admittedly the airplane can kill you a bit quicker if you screw up.

Well then when I talk to my mental cabin crew as I approach the marina (landing) and pulling into the slip (landing or parking at the gate) I will no longer feel like I'm crazy. All as I compensate for turbulenc, crosswinds and traffic!
I'm sure I'm not the only one though........

I needed to fly to Atlanta last week to pick up my new badge (Airline ID). I got an e-mail reminder from the Chief Pilot's Office. I e-mailed back and let them know I couldn't make it as planned due to forecast freezing rain and possibly snow. I told them I wasn't going to crawl onto an RJ in those conditions - no reply received. I flew up and got it yesterday.

And your a pilot, I guess this just reinforces my opinion on the regionals - stay away
