on my 95 300 when I turn my ignition keys to the mid point before the starter engages alarms sound.. Course, once the engine starts they stop.. Is that normal???

Yup. Let's you know the alarm works.

If the alarm sounds while you are running. . . .then break out your wallet. Because you gonna need it!

alarm can sound for few reasons: low water pressure, low oil pressure, high water temperature, faulty sensors, injectors, computer malfunction and more.
You need diagnostic computer what is wrong with motor if there is no obvious reasons.

Here is my problem...I anchored and was on generator this past weekend. When getting ready to leave I shut the generator off. With gen off I flipped the ignition switch to on and got a continous slow beeping alarm. Keep in mind I never stated the engine. I switched the switch off, then back on and same alarm. I Decided to leave off for a few mins while I get anchor up, etc. When ready to leave the cove, I flipped the ignition to on, the beeping started again. This time I just started the engine and started to idle out of the cove. All gauges looked 100% fine at this point. Within 30 seconds of the the boat at idle speed the alarm shut off. Any ideas ?? :smt017 Thanx :smt001

Check your outdrive fluid to see if it is low. That seems to be a leading reason for setting off an alarm when the key is first turned on.

Thanx, that was it. I could swear I had checked it but upon further inspection I could see the sensor was above the oil level. At idle the boat was level and once on the way the oil would cover the sensor and shut of the alarm. Quick & easy fix!!

BTW, the mechanics I asked at the Marina said it is not uncommon to use up to a quart of sterndrive oil a season!! Anything more could indicate a seal or gasket leak.

Last year, I lost about a 1/2 quart of oil on one drive, and had a BIG AND OBVIOUS leak when the drive was removed at the end of the season.

This year, I have not been adding any oil.

BTW: I have an older engine without the smart craft electronics. The alarms are not "just to tell you they work". The alarm is telling you that you have low oil pressure. Which is a true condition, until you get the engine started. Then when oil pressure is established, the alarm is switched off.
