Anchor rode not as long as I thought.

I replaced my 25' chain with 120', and respliced the rope just in case. I usually anchor in 5-20' so I will almost always use chain only. Works great because my windlass doesn't like rope.

While on this subject, I need a new anchor... Hence, is the anchor 22lb or 26lb? My rode is OEM and the rope section is 11 yrs young. Connection from chain to rope looks weak or sketchy to me. While changing the anchor, how much rope should I purchase, what type, and who would make the chain to rope connection? Thanks.

Cant answer on the weight but I would use the recommendation of the anchor manufacturers. I would assume you would stick with a plow. As far as line is concerned depending on where you go you would tel them what chain and line you want and they will splice it all. Don't forget swivels and safety catches.

Going to keep the same chain, just want new rope and anchor. Looking at a stainless steel anchor... How much rope should I get? Thanks

Ocean going ,600 Ft will work safely dropping the anchor in 100 Ft of water
A rope to chain splice is easier than tying shoelaces

Thanks Bt, that was my next question... Rope to chain splice...

Bt,

What keeps the end of the rope from unraveling (the ends) when the line gets pulled up by the windless and goes back and forth trough the finger? N

Nothing - if you don't whip the ends of the strands. I put 9 tucks in my splice and I did not whip the ends. The last 1/2" of each of the 3 strands frayed, but the fraying stopped where the strands hit the last tuck. No issues at all. I was very nervous anchoring the first couple of times after I did the splice since it was my first one, but it has a season and a half on it now and has held up fine. Give it a shot. It will work out fine.
