And the moron of the year award goes to...

Any pics of the blackened gel coat? Kinda looks like the south end of Halstead's Bay? If so, I'll be sure to keep my eye peeled for the melting 260! Hey kids, who needs fireworks!?!?

And is he anchoring from the stern too? Ouch!

There were 3 blow boats rafted near me for the 4th of July fireworks show. Two of them lit up grills like this to cook on. I think some people thought it was part of the show - the way they had those grills going'. Wish I had take a picture - but just think about how the grill looks when you dowse the thing with starting fluid and light it up.

But hey, it's safe on a sailboat. 'Cause the gas tanks are much smaller I guess...

Oh, and my vote for a caption...

"Hey, we can setup the fireworks launch area right here..."

... and apparently tied to the tow hook. What a moron.

Sadly, I share this lake with Teekster and a few other here....things like that are a common occurrence on our lake.

Heres another....

Bridog - that is brilliant! No jackets either! I had to look at those pics a second time, because at first I didn't notice the swim platform and was trying to figure out what they were sitting on. And because it looked like they were making out in the second photo...

ps - I hope that you or someone told them to stop this. I think some things are crazy enough that we have a moral responsibility to suggest a better path when we see it. Though, given human nature, most folks will not immediately follow those recommendations.

People regulary sit on the bow with their legs through the bow rails on their cruisers and cuddy's on my lake. This is my first year, and even I know better. Next time I'm out I'll grab a pic ... it may be able to be used as evidence at a later date.

Giving some guy a ticket for doing 6.5 mph on some river somewhere...

It's a good thing powerboaters in N.J are required to take boating safety "classroom instruction" in order to operate a boat. Who knows what would happen if these guys didn't get this important training.

Yes we did, and in return we got a few middle fingers.

Hell, He could have them do that at night with that FLIR camera!!!

Unbelievable!

He probably thinks he can run full speed at night with that camera on.

I bet there is a portable generator on that swim platform... you just can't see it because it's underwater...

Good grief!! All of these idiots explain the abundance of tragic articles we see in the paper every week. Something tells me that this thread could easily become most posted by years end.

I unfortunately didn't have my good camera handy to snap a pic of "portable generator row" in our cocktail cove this weekend. At least 4 with 2 go fast boats mixed in between. The best part . . . the generators were all on the bows AND the 2 go fast boats had their deck hatches open! Hmm, it did seem awfully quiet over there for a party floatilla. I guess they were all sleepy and had headaches . . .

Unfortunately, very few people have enough humility to be teachable. They will have to learn the sad, hard way.

You tried, and that's all you can do.

Back to the original posting topic (grill on the swim platform)... And at the risk of turning this into another "portable generator" thread... :wow:

How is a portable charcoal grill more dangerous than a portable propane grill? I mean, I've seen it done, and I assumed they were nuts, and they probably are, but why?

They both get hot, they are both basically on fire, etc. Is it that charcoal grills typically don't have a mounting system to keep them from upsetting? Or something else? And I sure see a lot of "boat grills" mounted near the fuel fillers (or with no consideration of the vents) - and nobody seems to comment on that.

On the rare times that I grill on the boat (I have a real grill on the dock that gets more use), I put the thing up on the bow and away from the business end of the boat.
