I referred a friend of mine to David Pascoe's site recently. I of course warned him to prepare for some harsh opinions...

I while looking for articles to recommend, I came across the notice that David passed away on Nov. 23rd at the age of 71.

His opinions offended many, but I think even they would admit that he offered a wealth of knowledge and insight and is leaving an impressive boating legacy.

Calm seas and dry stringers to you Mr. Pascoe!

He was a strong voice for doing it safe in boat and hull design. Now most of us cannot afford what we currently have if it is only constructed in a perfect world. I would believe his voice had some influence on the industry.

Calm waters in the great beyond.

RIP. He was very knowledgeable. Not many builders were up to his standards for sure.

At the same time, many of his complaints were about things that cost us money as boat owners. Careless use of coring, hard-to-service components and design that puts form over function are examples that plaque nearly all boaters sooner or later...

Many of those are after purchase issues that are not an issue to the buyer that has the dealer do all the work.

He often went on about bubble fore decks you cannot walk on easily, particularly in rough water. I get him completely, however I also get that the manufacturer engineered in the cabin from a vessel much larger and that was the trade off.

Wouldn't we all love to have a walk around ER? Absolutely! But I'm not giving up my twin power to get it and I cannot afford what it would take to have walk around twins. So I deal with it.

His strongest stuff was on the coring issue and the lack of proper sealing...

I'm not sure I'm with you on that one. An example is changing a poorly-designed Merc B3 impeller vs. a much better Crusader pump. The additional labor is something that buyers/owners continually pay for.
