Any cruizin' plans for 'down south'?

Memorial wkend works for us, we'll prob launch in the Sante area (depending on water levels) and run the Cooper river and meet up with the group. Now I am motivated to start rounding up all the parts that are scattered over the yard and get running again. Nicky

Nicky,

One of the neat things about running the cooper river is that you don't have to worry about flushing the engine when you pull it out, since you are running in fresh water before you put it on the trailer. Charlie mentioned it when we did the CSR trip a couple years ago. I had never really thought about it until we got to Charleston.

Where would you put in at?

we put in at Canal lakes fish camp most of the time, I have put in at 79 marker marina, depending on how much time we have. I have never put in in salt water always run the river down and back up . Also run the generator as well as the a/c. This will flush out every thing. Marker 79 is a good place to hang out if you like to party. They have a river boat there that is a bar resturant, also have tiki bar as well. There is a "HERD" of young people that hang out there. The scenery is fantastic, but us old folk get enough after about one night and move on. Nicky

Sadler - haven't met you yet but hope to soon.

Memorial Day sounds pretty good to us but we'll know more closer to that time. We'll keep watching this thread and finalize our plans as soon as we can. We sure hope things work out. And by the way - Dang, but ya'll get things moving fast!

Sweet Dreams, Nickysc, Islandhopper00, and the rest of you - hope we meet you all soon.

Happy cruizin' all...

Traburne, your from Conway? Near MB? I was thinking...Yes that's smoke from my head.lol. If it could be worked out, maybe we, some of us, could launch from MB, or Georgetown. "we" could run down the intercostal to Charleston, do the gunk holing around Charleston, then return. Anyone whom would like, can run with us. Maybe, yes, maybe no? What does anyone think?

Will be a toss up for us. Either ICW or through the locks. Heard theres a really nice sandy beach spot to anchor east of McClellaville. The person who told me about it said it was Racoon Key. But looking at a map based on the directions he gave me, it looks like it may be Sandy Point. Anyone know? Either one, it would be a good spot to take a break if travelling ICW.

IH, yes. 6 mi east of town. Nice beach with lots of shells. Deep water. Same outlet the shrimp boats take out supposedly. Too lazy to go out in the rain and dig my maps out of the boat but know it is right at bulls.

Count me out for Mem day weekend. No way I'm trying to go that far on a holiday week, I have to slow for every jon boat, pontoon, floating piece of crap, etc. on the way. Plus, lots of blobotes headed north then :smt013 ICW is just too busy for me that week to run that far. If MB >south is anything like MB >north, I would be at idle more than on plane. No telling what the seas will be but its not worth planning the trip on the outside to have crappy weather ruin it. Have fun, maybe next time. SB

For any of you who want to launch in Charleston, there is a good public ramp very close to the marina where I keep my boat. The ramp parking lot is well lit and frequently patrolled by the police. And, if you let me know, I'll arrange for you to use a hose at the marina to rinse your boat and flush your engine after you pull your boat out.

Islandhopper00 - The southbound trip would work well for us as we would not be trailering anyway. The return trip would also flush everything. I've got to get some canvas work done before then but everything should be finished long before May.

We're looking forward to this.

Randy,
Depending on the logistics, I'd trailer to wachesaw marina, Georgetown, or even your marina, drop in and run down from there. As the time closes nearer, I'll nail down more specifics.

Islandhopper00 -

Sounds good. If you need any information on any of the marinas between Conway and Georgetown (there are several good ones) let me know, I'll tell you what I can.

Thanks Randy, but here lately (last few years) I've been running that stretch of the intercostal quite a bit. My x-gf lived in N. Myrtle. So every weekend I was driving back and forth from Denver. (Charlotte). I like Wachesaw Marina, it's expensive though.
How far up the Conway river is it to your marina? I've never ventured up there. Most of the time I'd run to Georgetown.

Sadler,
What marina are you at again. Trying to find the ramp you are talking about. Being able to flush with fresh water is a major point for me since it is such a long haul until I could do it at home.

Wow.... this thread sure took off in the six days I've been off the site. Sadler sent me a PM to remind me to check back in

Yep I think Memorial Day would work pretty well. This time around the Admiral will probably make it along with Durango :smt001 I'd also be interested in Sadler's marina so we could flush out before the long drive home. Sadler, where's BeerBob nowadays? He needs to be invited just on the basis of the entertainment value he'd provide. I've never laughed so hard in my life as that night we spend anchored off of Kiawah.... I've never forget that night ~

IslandHopper is promising not to get a ticket this time, so I'll promise to do my best to "almost not break anything" LOL!

Gerald,

Great to hear from you. Beerbob boats with me in Charleston about every other month. I hope we can count on him for this trip. He's in Myrtle Beach right now on a golf outing. When he gets back, I'll see if he can make it Memorial Day weekend for the Rendezvous. Looking forward to meeting the Admiral. I'll PM you my marina.
