Any cruizin' plans for 'down south'?

Islandhopper00 -

I wish I knew how to address you other than this, but having never met you in person I guess this will have to do.

If you wanted to put in at Conway Marina your vehicle should be safe enough as the marina is only two blocks from the law inforcement center in Conway and is directly adjacent to the Firemen and Police private clubhouse. The downside is that you would have a 1 1/2 to 2 hour run to Georgeown from this point. We would love to have some company on this leg but, with the cost of fuel, etc., we know that you would probably prefer to put in closer to our destination (i.e. Charleston.)

Let us know what you decide.

Happy cruizin'....

Whew, being that close to the po-po might make me nervous!!!!!!!!

Naw, just kidding, for me that would be a bonus, to not have to worry about the truck and trailer. I'm thinking it could be a nice option, seeing as I haven't ever run the Conway river. I could mark it off my list of waterways to conquer.

By the way. Do we, does anyone mind if non-sea ray boats accompany us. A Triton, and Rinker?

If there are no objections, some friends may accompany us. Then I would put in at Wachesaw marina. We could meet there (WM), and re-commence the trip. If not then I'd probably drop in, in Conway with ya'll and accompany you to Charleston. With your blessing of course.

Do you think the "black Bike Week" will really NOT happen? Thats one thing for IH to contemplate that weekend with trailering on 501. We will prob put in at Georgetown and meet up. My son works at Belle Isle and can drive our truck/trailer to a safe spot.

Islandhopper00 (hope I spelled right) bring you'r friends along, the more the merrier I have friends that live on Santee that own a Regal that will probably come down the river with us. Exactly what day or days are we planning to meet up in Charleston, we always take a 4 day wkend for memorial day. P.S Sadler hopefully you agree with this, You being the Cheif whats in charge of this event. Let me know if there is a problem. Nicky

Any thought on the trip itinerary?

Our usual habit is to stay in the slip at the marina Friday night, eat out in Charleston or Mt. Pleasant, then late Saturday morning let the lines go and head for a nice secluded anchorage, get there by dusk, and stay the night and grill out there. But I'm open to anything.

Whatever we do, do we want to meet Friday night (like the last Rendezvous), or do we want to shift it to a Saturday rendezvous for the folks traveling down the ICW?

And do we want to forgo marinas (the "green" approach) and meet at an anchorage and stay the next night at an anchorage?--to me, this is a fun thing to do: go from anchorage to anchorage.

If we want to meet at an anchorage, I can suggest a few good ones. And if we want to stay a night at a marina, I can check with my marina for slips, or try to find slips at another Charleston marina.

I didn't think about that. Might have to rethink the launch. Where in Georgetown will you launch? At the intercostal waterway next to the ferry?
I might have to launch at Wachesaw. I pull to Garden City down Hwy 521 thru G-Town to G-City.

Hey Mike you know with out even asking me, any friend of yours is a friend of mine. As Sadler and others have said "The more the merrier". I have no idea if I can make, but if the Girls come along I'll have to find a hotel/condo for them. If it is just me the camp/anchorage sounds great. I still have not got Judy to campout on MS Judy yet (Grin)

Sadler, I'm game for anything. A meet up on friday late, at your marina seems doable to me. I'll do what it takes to make it. I'm off friday till tuesday, unless I take a few more days of vacation. Anchor out, marina up, let me know.

Islandhopper- we will put in at Ferry landing, leave a spare for my son and have him take the truck either to his house or to the marina which is private/gated.

Fri night to meet in Chas and stay at the marina sounds good to us. We could stay on the hook Sat night and then maybe Sun back at the marina or at least a pass by the marina again for a shower for the small boats :). If we went this route, I would guess Fri would be a quick straight shot down and thus Sun we could mozey around and check out Sandy Point and Bulls areas on the way back up the ICW.

Sounds like a doable schedule to me. I'd have to launch at Wachesaw or maybe that new marina that is on the way to Ferry landing, (secure parking) I can't remember the name of the marina.
Traburn, is any of this doable for you? We could all meet up at ferry landing at a specific time if necessary.

We would like to get together with anyone crusing the Carolinas in late Feb./Early March. We are planning on a trip from Belhaven, NC to Myrtle beach. Probably stopping in Morehead City, NC and Wilmington. Anyone else crusing this time of year?

Man, I wish I could. That is a trip I want to do also. One day I want to have done the entire stretch from Key West to Maine. Before it silts in and can't be done. Maybe Obama will spend some of the bail out money dredging the waterway. Doubt it.

With people coming south from Georgetown, we could move the center of mass north if folks want and anchor out the first night (Friday?) well north of Charleston. I know a good spot near McClellanville, and one farther south near Dewees Island. Or, we can leave it in Charleston.

If necessary I could trailer to Charleston on fri. morning, in order to catch up with the group. I am unfamilair with the area. We always stay the night at Harbor marina and go back up the river. Would like this to be a learning experence . So I am game for what ever the group would like. Nicky

Chuck,

If Judy decides to come, and if you need accommodations, and if folks want to meet up near my marina, there is a new motel just down the street. It's not as nice as last time at Charleston Harbor Marina, but it is a new budget motel and it's a block away. And it's probably a lot less. I'm headed to the boat this weekend to do some annual maintenance, and I'll get the name just in case.

One note: the wet slips at my marina tend to fill up for Memorial Day, but if folks want to stay there (and I'm not pushing that--there's lots of places to stay), I might be able to reserve slips for the first night of the rendezvous. One plus, it is an upriver lower cost marina, vs. the nicer Charleston Harbor marinas.

Sticking around Chas and seeing the places you mentioned earlier Sadler appeals to us. We can hit the northern areas on the way back. We will be able to leave G'town as early as 2ish on Fri. or later if needed. How long is a straight run From Ferry landing to Chas to your marina Sadler?
