Any cruizin' plans for 'down south'?

Sticking around Chas and seeing the places you mentioned earlier Sadler appeals to us. We can hit the northern areas on the way back. We will be able to leave G'town as early as 2ish on Fri. or later if needed. How long is a straight run From Ferry landing to Chas to your marina Sadler?

Georgetown is mile marker 403, and Charleston, plus a little to my marina, is mm 470, so the distance is roughly 67 miles. At an average speed of say 20 mph, that's about a three and a half hours. Leaving GT at 2, would put you close to my marina at 5:30, in plenty of time before dark and the festivities.

Sadler, will we be running thru Wappo creek to anchor up again? If we do I'm going thru at idle speed! :) Gerald knows why. LOL

Mike,

Since your little mis-adventure, I keep the rpms way down through there and just enjoy the "beautiful ride". I'm thinking we'll probably go that way again. Labor Day Weekend will be a prime time to again be "harvested", so we'll want to definitely keep her to minimum wake.

Sadler, I was just looking at your info and realized you used to dry stack on LKN. Since the last trip I have moved up to LKN and dry stack at Westport Marina. I like Norman much better than Wylie. There are some who would argue with me about that statement, but the rough water of Norman doesn't bother me.

I'm planning to make the run from Georgetown to Charleston, hopefully "we" can all get hooked up, and make the trip together.

Mike,

The wording in my profile is a little confusing. I grew up boating on LKN with my parents; I've always dry stacked in Charleston. My parents leased one of the first lots from Duke Power on LKN right after the lake started filling up. I can recall stumps, piles of brush, and lots snakes and lots of debris in the lake. Our first boat was a dark green wooden john boat with a barely runnable 5 hp Evinrude that I worked on to keep running. There were NO lights on the lake at night back then, and it was downright spooky.

This should be a great rendezvous. Looking forward to seeing you again. The run from Georgetown is great.

Nicky,

No problem on the non Sea Ray folks at all.

As to the schedule, how about we meet up Friday afternoon? Does that work for everyone? If not we can do it Saturday.

We'll need to do a roll call here shortly. The number of people we have coming will somewhat dictate where we meet. And, no one should feel like they have to do this or that. Last time we sort of broke into two groups--the folks who wanted to do some landside activities and those who wanted more on the water time. If we get a large group, there could well be two or more subgroups.

Maybe we'll do a roll call in a day or two and get people's plans and what they'd like to do.

Islandhopper00 (hope I spelled right) bring you'r friends along, the more the merrier I have friends that live on Santee that own a Regal that will probably come down the river with us. Exactly what day or days are we planning to meet up in Charleston, we always take a 4 day wkend for memorial day. P.S Sadler hopefully you agree with this, You being the Cheif whats in charge of this event. Let me know if there is a problem. Nicky

Carla & I would welcome a group CSR outing in Charleston area this summer. We live in N. Augusta, SC and visit our student daughter & boat in Charleston often. Sounds like a good idea if we can get a plan orginized.

CaptainH--great if you and Carla could make it. And you're right, we need to get organized if this is going to happen. I don't want to take over, but someone needs to get things firmed up, so I'll give it a try. Anyone else who wishes, please chime in.

I think the plan so far is to have it a one to two night event Memorial Day Weekend. We'll meet Friday night somewhere in or near Charleston--exactly where is yet to be determined. And for those who wish to go a second night, anchor out somewhere Saturday night. Where we meet Friday night is I think still open, as is where we anchor out Saturday. The two Friday night options are:

1. Meet at a marina, and overnight there, then head for a spot to anchor out Saturday night. The marina we choose I think will depend on the number of boats and availability of slips. It's pretty early still, but I'd say the sooner we can reserve slips for Memorial Day the better.

or

2. Anchor out both nights, and rendezvous at an agreed upon anchorage Friday night. This would be cheaper for everyone and require no advance reservations. There are several spots around Charleston I can think of that would work for that, and a few north of Charleston that would probably work well for the folks coming south from Georgetown/Myrtle Beach.

Where we anchor out Saturday or both nights can be decided upon much later, so I suggest we try to firm up Friday night.

Why don't we vote for Friday night's options--Option 1 (marina) or Option 2 (on the hook).

I'll start by saying either is fine with me. (If everyone is as wishy washy as I am, I'll flip a coin.) Both sound great.

OK, would everyone who is interested in going please vote your preference for Friday night--Option 1 or 2?

Sadler

Has anybody talked with SeaRayPaul about the trip?

Sadler and All:

Option 1 (the marina) sounds good for Friday night but we could do whatever the rest of the group wants. As I said at the outset, we are still relatively new to this having only owned 'The Lady' for two years now, so we're just looking to fit in and learn from those more experienced. As for the roll call, the only way that we won't be there is if we are forced to work (U.S. Postal Service).

We are really looking forward to this!

Happy cruizin' all...

Wow this thread moves fast! The Admiral just made me join this decade and get on Facebook so I've been messing with that the last couple of days.

Sadler we bought a Sundancer to stay on the hook, so I'd vote for that on Friday. Last time at the marina I slept on the boat anyway while the others stayed in a hotel, and if we stay at a marina we'll be doing the same thing again... so there's no reason I see to have to pay for a slip fee. But we'll go with what the group thinks. I will say however to those who haven't done it yet, that you've missed a huge blessing and great time. There's nothing like spending a great evening rafted together on the hook. You can stay in a hotel anytime. Give Friday some thought and go for it. I promise the entertainment and comraderie you'll experience will leave lasting memories.

About bike week; I've got a Harley now so I've joined a Harley forum and the bike week mess this year is a huge topic. The city of Myrtle Beach has gone to great lengths this year to make people think that they are cancelling the motorcylce event; but it's not really theirs to cancel, and now the other towns in Horry County are trying to get the word out that bikers are still welcome and please come while avoiding Myrtle Beach city limits. I don't know what the black bikers are planning but I expect they'll thumb their noses at the city of Myrtle Beach and descend on the area anyway. That weekend could be a real mess in that county so if it we me, I'd find any place to put in except there.

If we don't hear from SeaRay Paul anytime soon, I could go stalk him and try to contact him. I live about two miles from him.

I can go either way but, I'm an anchor out guy. If we anchor out, needs to be an easy find. Maybe gps lat and lon, or familar location. Probably near some place where folks who stay at a marina can run quickly to. So, I guess my vote goes for anchor out.

Hey guys&gals, don't worry about us. If everybody else wants to anchor out and I've got the girls I'll just run back in to the marina. We are not even sure if we are going to be able to make it yet. Now if times change and I've already got my 290SS I would be right there with you all (Grin)

Good evening

Ya'll are doing a good job getting this trip together it sounds like a good time that I would like to attend. Work may be getting in the way though just like the Keowee trip and Aquapalzooa last year. Repeat after me, At least I have a job.

I will check my weekend work schedule so I can let ya'll know our plans. If I am off I will be there. If I work ya'll can send me the pictures to rub it in.

As for biker weekend stay out of MB. I made that mistake one year. It is the only time I saw the Military police rip some body out of a car without opening the door and deposit him on the pavement face first. Oh did I mention the big assault rifles they were carrying and pointing at this fellow?

It was good to see everyone on this post. I thought Sadler, Mike, and Gerald had all bought a Bayliner since I never see them anymore on CSR. This is turning in to a hijack so enough of me. Back to the trip

Paul,

Great to hear from you! You're right, I did drift away for awhile; things got a little hot here earlier, and I lost interest. Thanks to Traburne (Randy) for starting this thread--it's sharing the boating experience with friends and family, and second to that, trying to improve on the boating process, that I enjoy. But, even though I wasn't here, I've been fervently boating year round--on a Sea Ray!, so keep the faith. I see no Bayliner in my future.

I think you know I re-dinghied again this year (my 4th try), so as proof of my renewed devotion to CSR, look for me to actually start a thread in the near future to possibly help people not make all the mistakes I made. Oh, and I've finally solved the problem of my A/C water pump loosing prime when the forklift picks the boat up, so maybe I'll try a little post on that.

Now, back on topic: You need to make this trip. Seriously.

If work rears its ugly head on the Rendezvous weekend, tell your employers it's not for you, but for them. You'll be a more productive person, and, in the corporate speak I've come to love so much, tell them it's a "win win" situation. Heck, tell them they should "invest" in it to ensure their own future and foot the bill for your gas. I would bet that almost every person here will back you.

Sadler

Honestly we dont mind anchoring both nights. We just need acess to a shower at least one of them as we do not have that on board!

My boat has a shower anyone is welcome to use at anchor. It's not a fancy separate, but it is a stand-up shower with hot water. It is low though. I'm 5'9" and my head just misses touching the top. So get ready to stoop over if you're tall.

Heck, I think they should sponsor the whole event, that way we could all go to their store and purchase something. Yeah, that's the ticket:lol::smt043:lol:
